Nearby Chromecast controls

Greetings,

I noticed that my phone doesn't display Chromecasts that are playing on our local network, like a previous phone (not GOS) did.

These Chromecast do show up as options in apps supporting Chromecasting.

Is there a way to allow my phone to show these notifications?

GrapheneOS is not typical in the way that gservices is handled. Rather than being given super privileges, it is being shoehorned into the same restricted privileges as any other user-installed application. Consequently, any functions that can't be implemented without those advanced privileges may not work.

Its the price you pay for security.

csis01 so you're thinking it's due to GPS being sandboxed?

I have zero idea how it normally functions (on the backend), just that usually within a few minutes of being on the same network it will detect and display any Chromecasts that are active.

I certainly appreciate the improved security, and especially that I can revoke the "network" permission for apps.

patienttruth99 Call it gservices or something distinct. GPS means "Global Positioning System". You refer to "notifications", so yes, I would expect that these are connected to gservices being cordoned off.

So, I figured this out. It does work...

I had to turn on the "nearby devices" permission, as well as notifications permission to Google Play Services.
