Hey guys,

I have another question regarding the Aurora store.
Does the store actually offer a self-update function or do you always have to download the latest APK's from the manufacturer?

I did not install the store via F-Droid but via the manufacturer's website.
Recently several new stable builds came out and the app unfortunately didn't offer me any of them for download.

In order to search for an app on Aurora Store using an external link, I tried Chromium based browsers like Brave, Kiwi...or Firefox and they all failed. The only browser that works every single time for me is Tor. I'm happy with this workaround but I still wish there would be more alternatives to Aurora where I could install apps on Google Play anonimously.

[deleted] It has an update tab which will look for the latest versions for all installed applications.
You do have to press ''update all'' manually.

Hey thanks for your answer, but that's not what I meant unfortunately.

I mean the Aurora store app itself, not my installed apps.

Does anyone else have any ideas perhaps?

        Hi V0nium!
        Unfortunaltely, no.
But thanks for the question. Since I am also interested in this, I did some research again.
I didn't find a solution for automatic update of the Aurora Store App, but I found out that there is version 4.3.0 (48) (stable) since yesterday!
I downloaded it manually as .apk directly from the developer website and installed it.
        Works fine!

[deleted] You could consider reinstalling Aurora Store from the F-Droid repo through an app store such as the F-Droid app, Droid-ify or Neo Store. You can keep it updated from there.

Or if you don't want to do that, you could consider using Obtainium and adding Aurora Store in it with the link to Aurora Store's Gitlab page. The apk signature from Gitlab is probably identical to the one from their website so it should work to keep it updated.

If you already use an F-Droid app store on your device, the simplest approach is probably to reinstall Aurora Store from there. If not, you can try out Obtainium.

          23 days later

I'm still getting rate limited. It's the difficulty in getting my apps installed and up to date on this OS that is stopping me from using Graphene OS for my daily main phone

galaxyegg GrapheneOS isn't at fault though, the rate limiting happens operating system agnostic. If you wish for a painless experience you can choose to use the official play store instead, remember you aren't locked into any of the options, pick what suits you.

galaxyegg As long as Aurora's "business model" is based on using Google's services in ways that Google opposes, there will likely be glitches.

Aurora store probably does ask the user to update It but What do you mean by 'Manufacturer'?

It's akin to saying: "I have a difficulty with my car. For an inexplicable reason, it drives slightly faster than whatever the posted speed limit is. It is preventing me from utilizing it to its full potential for fear of getting a fine. I'm very close to selling it and getting something else."

            Echoing others:

            • this is an app issue, it is OS agnostic
            • there are 99 ways to install apps
            • if a mop with a Samsung can find a way to install an app, so can you. No reason to throw GOS under the bus.
            • there is a multitude of ways to use Aurora. A bunch of posts explain how to do it anonymously, via a browser link. It works well and I've been using it for months. (Because I'm always rate limited and don't use anything by G.)

Please do some research, or at the very least, a question should be asked in a manner: "I don't know how to do X, any tips? Thanks!", else you might get salty replies. The problem isn't with the car.

            Hope this helps)

[deleted] I'm still confused about Aurora, I seem to be able still to update previous downloaded apps, but not download new apps. Thanks Goolag!!! I try to use apps where developers can provide the .apk,

            5 months later

I'm at my wits end trying to get Aurora store installed. I previously had it installed, but it stopped working, so I uninstalled it and now I'm trying to reinstall it.

Ideally, I'd like to get this downloaded via obtanium to keep it updated. But for some reason Aurora doesn't want to work like everything else in obtanium.

Can anyone share the exact settings and source you used to successfully add Aurora store to the obtanium app? The gitlab, f-droid, and official website don't seen to be working for me as sources but I'm not privy to all the setting options available in obtanium when first installing the app.

When I attempt to use gitlab as a source, I get a popup window that says:

            some errors occured
            Invalid [AuroraStore]

When I attempt to use f-droid as a source, I get a popup window that says:

            Some errors occured
            Conflict [com.aurora.store]

Installing the apk directly from the official website download isn't working for me either. When I go to install it from my files it says it appears to be invalid.

Roger try finding it in the Owner profile and tap the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner and tap uninstall for all users, then after it's uninstalled for all users you can try installing it again.

other8026 Thank you so much, that was the problem, it was installed on another profile. Much appreciated.

                Hi all,
my experience to add the Aurora Store app in Obtainium was similar as at most of your's and then I got an easy remedy:
Since the Aurora Store app can (really) update itself (maybe it was v4.3.5 or one later), why put it into Obtainium, where then I get the next problem when the next update will come?

Best way for me was to download the newest stable version from GitLab, only there I found v4.4.2 (56) yesterday.
As soon as there is a newer version available, the Aurora Store app itself will point this out and then you just need to press a button to install the offered update.

Eagle_Owl That sounds like a great solution, thanks for sharing.

I can only speak for myself, so personally the reason I went the obtanium route was because that method of relying on aurora to update itself simply wasnt working for me, I don't know why, maybe my settings, but it wasnt updating.

I'm glad it sounds like they fixed that problem, maybe when I upgrade my phone I'll give it another shot.

                    Roger
And to be clear: I like Obtainium very, very much!
But there are very little issues with version recognition and with getting apps from GitLab.
And why fighting against problems to add an app to Obtainium, when only this one app makes trouble, but this one app has the opportunity to check itself for updates and needs only your confirmation to install the update – exactly the same way as it works with other apps in Optainium?

Thanks to Josh (Side of Burritos) and a few other serious YouTube guys I am a big fan of Obtainium since 24.02.2024 and have deleted Neo Store (not bad!) and need only three app sources now:

                      1. GrapheneOS Apps (of course!)
                      2. Obtainium (for all open source apps and a few apps that are only available on the F-Droid repo)
                      3. Aurora Store (for a few apps, which are only available on Google Play)

Conclusion: Fewer apps, more clarity and security. Faster updates.
