I'm running Pixel 6a on the newest GOS and have Visible installed on a secondary profile with Google play Services activated.

I click "Get Started" then "Check if my phone works." It then says my phone works with Visible and I select the eSIM option. Then I click "Continue with eSIM" and give Visible access to detect my location.

I then get an error stating, "You must be in the United States to download and activate eSIM." But my GPS in Magic Earth shows my correct location in the US so I'm unsure what's going on.

Any advice?

Kryptos eSIM activation requires Play Services to be installed in the OWNER profile. SIM management is restricted to it and cannot be done via secondary users. When installed in the OWNER profile you will see a new menu item available in SETTINGS>NETWORK AND INTERNET>ENABLE PRIVILIGED ESIM MANAGEMENT.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've uninstalled Visible from the secondary user profile and installed it in the owner profile. I then installed Google Play Services, Framework, and Play Store. Then I enabled privileged eSIM Management.

Next, I rebooted and went through the process I'd outlined above. After clicking "Continue with eSIM" I just get a spinning blue circle that never finishes. Not sure if others are having this issue or not.

I'll likely just get a physical sim in the US but for traveling I'd like to use eSIM software like Airalo. I'm hoping this isn't an issue.

Kryptos have you dialled *#*#4636#*#* tapped Phone Info and made sure the DSDS (Dual SIM Dual Standby) toggle is on?

Thanks, I tried that but the result remained a blue circle spinning in perpetuity after clicking "Continue with eSIM."

For the sake of clarity, I had no physical or eSIM installed previously.

In Sandboxed Google Play settings I also tried disabling "Reroute location requests to the OS..." And in Play Services Permissions set Location permission to "Allow all the time" and "Use precise location" per guidance. Same result.

Appears that the 6a does have an issue with eSIM and possibly physical ones for some on certain carriers.

Sideloading the June release currently gated to only being given to Verizon users and then possibly doing a factory reset has a high chance of fixing it. That fixes the OEM unlocking toggle issue.

Likely that if none of the above or the quoted suggestion from Daniel work, it should or at least hopefully will, be resolved with Android 13.

Thanks so much. I'm appreciative of Daniel, the GrapheneOS team, and great community members/volunteers like you.

FWIW, Visible is a Verizon subsidiary. And flashing GOS on my 6a the other day was smooth.

The only other issue I see are widgets disappearing from secondary user profiles but apparently this is a documented issue in AOSP that's being addressed (slowly??) upstream.

Kryptos no worries, I get just as frustrated as those with issues when we can't resolve them due to third parties. 😩

FYI, I bought my Pixel 6a from the Google Store. I'll be monitoring this and will report back when I receive my physical SIM on 8/12.

How long after Android 13 is released might we expect GOS to ship with it?

Kryptos so long as carriers have supplied the appropriate configs to Google not long at all.

Got my Visible SIM today. It activated and works just fine. I'll try converting to eSIM in the future.

Here is one solution for eSIM activation on Visible. However, someone I was helping recently was still having issues and that didn't work for them. They previously hadn't activated the eSIM on stock OS so it's possible you may need to activate it there first.

Has anyone solved this? I am running into this issue on a Pixel 4a (non 5g). My physical sim slot is acting up and I'd like to switch to eSIM but I get the "must be in the US" error. I have tried everything suggested except a factory reset.

Supposedly it will work if you first perform e-Sim activation on stock OS on the phone you wish to flash Graphene on.

                        5 days later

eSIM was not present in GrapheneOS after installing it in the stock Pixel 4a image. I worked with Visible customer service and was unable to make eSIM work with GrapheneOS. eSIM would install (after Visible Customer Service gave me a QA code for it) but I only had data, no voice, SMS, MMS.

Is there any movement on this? Looks like esim does not work unless you first installed before installing grapheneos?
I'm sure there probably isn't anything on the graphine side, it's a visible issue, sigh...

Unfortunately, it has to be activated from the visible app, which seems to "hang" on a white screen after you select the plan you want to use. But after further discussion on the Visible forum, I don't think I'm going with Visible.
