Hi, I have pixel 4 xl with graphene, everything works fine, but I have unstable calls at my parent's house. My mom has pixel 6a with stock fw, she has "2G calls only" option in preferred network settings, or something like that, I don't remeber exactly. She can make calls with 2G fine, but on my 4 XL I see these: 4G only, 4G (recommended), and 3G, which no longer work here. So when I'm there, I have problems with calls, people don't hear me, I don't hear them, I need to go to the window, etc. My mom had the same problem too, but with 2G calls she can move freely around the house. I cannot find this setting. Do I need to enable it somewhere on graphene? Thank you.

Just type 2g in search box in settings and you will find toggle to allow 2g.

I hope you understand that signal settings have nothing to do with GOS...
Best thing you could do in such case, is switching them to WiFi-Calling, or to an
alternative app. I managed to do that with elderly parents, we are not using 2G/3G
anymore, just Whatsapp. Well this is not my choice, but they know how to use it,
so still better than plain old SMS, they just learnt to use a decade ago.

[deleted] Thank you, I have tried, but I don't have that 2G option on my phone. Just 3G or 4G.
uid0gid0 So you really go long road to get rid of corporate spyware, install graphene OS and then what? Install whatsapp? Thank you for a tip, but I'm not going to let this happen on my daily phone, not even in a sandbox.

kosa on the phone app, dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information, you'll see a setting called "set preferred network type". Out of that list select GSM only, and your phone will be set on 2G only.
I assume you can't just select it directly from settings since most carries around the world are slowly shutting down these services, or because of its security flaws.

I'm sorry to hear that, I have it on my phone as your mother does (the same Pixel 6a).

Some carrier might block 2g. You can directly check with yr carrier, or if you have a spare phone, you could try your SIM there and check if 2g would be available there.

somerandomdude That code seems to be working! Thanks so much. The only downside is I cannot choose 2G for voice and LTE for data as with mom's pixel 6a, but it is surely better than nothing. When I will be at my parent's, I can switch to 2G and when I return to the city, I can switch back.

Is there possibility to bookmark this code somehow? Storing in addressbook is possible, but it tries to make a call, it does not execute the code :(

Anyway, thanks everybody for help. I'm glad to have such a helpful community around.

[deleted] thanks, both my sim and carrier support 2G, actually my daddy still has 2G outdoor keyphone (same phone as I used till recently) and my SIM worked fine with it. Just my pixel 4 xl does not have this 2G menu visible for some reason. Now I can at least use the secret code to get to the 2G menu.

I’m confused, I thought that 2G was being dismantled.

              What did I miss?

3g is being dismantled - 2g will probably outlast it due to low level devices needing the primitive bandwidth.
