  • Can you allow screenshots in Vanadium incognito mode?

I usually surf in incognito mode and sometimes need to take screenshots. When I do this, the browser screen is black. I assume it is some kind of security feature, but I don't really see the point of it. So, mostly it is just a disturbance to me.

I cannot find any options where to control this. Is it possible to disable this behavior?

coral-mountain This is not specific to Vanadium. It's from Chromium. Chromium doesn't allow screenshots when using incognito mode, and as far as I can tell, there's no setting to change that.

There is an open issue about having a toggle that would allow you to bypass apps that don't allow you to take a screenshot here, but it's low priority:

The way to get "around" this is to install another Chromium based browser (I use Brave), then
use the non-incognito mode for your activities, and wipe data+cache on it every once in a while.

Some sites do detect incognito browsing using JS, and may flag your activity as suspicious:

Anyway, not really an answer to your question, but a small workaround.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used Chrome for a really long time, so I thought this was done by Vanadium. Your answer pointed me to the right direction and I could find a solution here.

      1. Navigate to chrome://flags
      2. Search for "Incognito Screenshot" and mark and mark the incognito-screenshot as Enabled
      3. Restart Chrome
      10 months later

I've been making use of this excellent tip, yet as of a couple of days I'm not able to take screenshots anymore: turned of by your admin.

Anyone else run into this (and solve it)

      Cheers

      chrome://flags/#incognito-screenshot:

Enables Incognito screenshots on Android. It will also make Incognito thumbnails visible. This flag will be ignored on API version >= 33.

So it seems to be intention.

Just fyi. For me another way works as well: Using the shortcut with volume down + power button.
