  • Timed Wiping and Secure Backup (Travel)

If I am going to travel I'd like to have a procedure for auto factory reset taking place if the phone is seized and placed in a faraday bay bag by Law Enforcement of Customs.

I'd also very much like to know how to backup a mirror or my Graphene OS pixel 5 if I either lose the phone or if it recieves a factory reset due to siesure

There is no auto-wipe feature like that. You can use auto-reboot feature that will put the phone into BFU state even in a Faraday bag... It will make it harder for them to unlock the phone unless you give your PIN.

There is SeedVault backup but it doesn't backup all the data, the best way is to manually export/backup any important data you care about.

On a general note, if you have a grounded concern like this it would be better to preemptively wipe your phone before crossing the border and store any needed data in the cloud... Do not carry sensitive data on a physical device with you even encrypted... You unwillingness to decrypt may cause far worse problems... in theory at least...

d9780 I cannot speak to the technical questions, but you might want to ask a lawyer in your country before doing something like this. In some jurisdictions that would be "destruction of evidence" which can be a very serious crime.

It is best to not have sensitive data with you at all when crossing an international boundary. In fact it is the only way to ensure privacy.

Auto reboot is as safe as wiping the device as long as you have a very strong password.

I proposed a dead man switch long time ago and strcat made the auto reboot feature based on this request.

By the way there is no country in which an automatic wipe would be declared as destruction of evidence.

Thanks a great deal! At the risk of sounding dumb, is auto reboot simply logging out and back in or is it a special action? How does one auto reboot?

Thanks allot buddy! When you say changed, do you mean I could only auto reboot from the owners profile?

d9780 you have to set this in the owner profile. It is valid for all profiles. For example not logging in for 8 hours no matter where, reboots the device.
