I bought a Pixel 8a 2 days ago and installed Grapheneos, Also installed Instagram app, Photos app, Signal app and VDO.Ninja for streaming.

I had the phone for 10 hours and was streaming using VDO.APP while suddenly the transmission stopped. Took me quite a while to find out that the phone had activated Airplane Mode. Phone was placed in a mount for half an hour and I didn't touch it in any way before the transmission stopped after 10 minutes.

I have had this Airplane problem in different variations on other phones before for many years so I think it is related to native Android. In the beginning I thought I was doing something wrong but I know now I don't!

I DESPERATELY need a way to disable airplane mode FOR GOOD!

Absolutely no point in having a phone that just turns airplane mode on for no apparent reason.

What can I do?

RigPa Unsure how this can even be possible. Sometimes people accidentally turn on airplane mode from the quick settings tiles (swipe down from the top of your screen twice). You can edit that menu and remove airplane mode from it. That's only one of two ways that I can think of to enable airplane mode. I don't know of a way to disable airplane mode "for good."

Maybe you've changed something in developer options? It's been a long time since I went through the list of everything that's there.

Another (perhaps somewhat absurd) idea: Were you already in airplane mode before and had Internet via Wi-Fi?

If, for example, the Wi-Fi connection is briefly interrupted (which you may not notice due to the buffer) and you have set the timer very short under Settings> Security & privacy > Exploit protection> Turn off Wi-Fi automatically (it goes down to 15 seconds), it is possible that this setting then automatically switches off Wi-Fi.

Like I said - a bit of a stretch especially since you mentioned that this has happened on other Android devices before and (Auto Wi-Fi off is apparently a GrapheneOS feature) but it's worth a try.

Thanks! But no. Internet worked and I streamed to a connected online server for 10 working minutes and picked up the stream in a browser on my PC.

I know what you are saying and every single soul I have told about this don't believe me. No one ever did. But there are a lot of people on the net with the same 'unexplainable' situation. But I have worked with bugs and software break downs my since 83 - and I have seen shit no one would ever believe. Even things much more spooky than this. But there is ALWAYS a rational explanation. This is not it.

On this phone which was only 10 hours old I have never been at Settings> Security & privacy > Exploit protection> Turn off Wi-Fi automatically - until right now. And it says Never.

I am convinced this is - maybe not a bug, but something else has access to turn Flight Mode on. I have found apps that does that. One of them is the power saving app. On my previous phone it took a turn for the better when I turned off power savings. Not completely but better. IT would SOME TIMES turn on flight mode when battery was running low.
