I use APK Kit and Save2Storage to locally clone Apps but also just files.

Having something to update or install apps to another profile would be great, Shelter allows that currently. Just needs extracting the APK, sending it over and opening it with the session installer in the private space.

DeletedUser59 I wanted to move my banking app to the Private space that has Google services installed so I could pay with my phone without switching profiles.

In order to make NFC payments my Swedbank app requires biometric unlock to be enabled on the device. In order to achieve this I had to disable the Use device screenlock and setup new PIN and a fingerprint for the private space. This is a little bit of a drawback because I have to unlock the Private space explicitly whenever I unlock the device even though the Private space is set to be locked only when device restarts. I could live with this if payments worked.

The last thing the app needs to enable contactless payments is to set the Swedbank app as the default payment method and this is where I got stuck. Setting Swedbank app as the default payment app in the NFC settings is not detected by the app, it says it is not the default payment app. Trying to set the same setting through the app results in an "empty button click", the check mark just cannot be set an no error message is thrown. I will try reading the logs later, maybe I will see something.

But it seems that this i a problem of the Private space as the app works fine on a separate profile.

Enable a fake NFC payment service in
the main profile, so that the contactless payments option under Settings - NFC becomes enabled to allow you to choose a payment app inside the work profile.

This works around an Android bug that makes it impossible to select a payment app inside the work profile if none is available in the main profile.

Try enabling a payment app in both.

My Owner profile does not have Google Services so the Swedbank app won't even launch there. But maybe just having it installed will be enough as per your suggestion. I will try to extract the apk from a secondary profile that has a working Swedbank app installation and install it on the Owner profile. I will get back to you with the results once I have something.

Installing extracted apk did not work, had to install the app using Aurora. The app did not even start as expected since it requires Google Services. But it did show up under Settings -> Connected devices -> Connection preferences -> NFC -> Contactless payments -> Default payment app. This dialog had two options: None and Swedbank. Selecting Swedbank here did not help.

What is interesting is that the same settings for Private space have 3 options: Google Pay, Swedbank and Swedbank with a lock symbol. No None option here. So it seems, that the Private space sees 2 Swedbank apps: the one that is installed on the Owner profile and the other one installed on the Private space.

Whatever combination of default payments app I select in the system settings Swedbank app still complains that it is not the default payments app as if it must set this setting itself but it cannot for some reason. Do apps installed on the Private space have some sort limitation of accessing/setting system settings?

it's not about wallets but rather about dedicated bank app that "knows you" anyway.

Does enabling the eSIM support in the Private Space also enable it in the Owner profile?

Does enabling the eSIM support in user profile A also enable it in all user profiles?

Another thing: something I found quite annoying when setting up different users is that if you enable calls/SMS for a certain user, the history is shared with the Owner. Is this also the case with private space?

I like to treat Owner as root that have complex password and is not used very often, only for administrative task.
Currently i have separate main and work profiles , but switching between is kinda painful.
But i would love to have work apps in private space of main profile (non-owner) .

Since the feature has just dropped, and there are still bugs being fixed, and Google may well make changes to how the code works in the next couple of quarterly releases, I would be surprised if the GrapheneOS developers would think now is a good time to invest in making local changes.

strict-marsh We never recommended replacing a secondary user with Private Space. We recommended replacing work profiles with Private Space. Better OS integration is referring to Private Space having user interfaces as part of the OS to manage it and share files between it and the Owner user instead of depending on a management app.

Not wanting to open a discussion here, but work profile works without a management app afaik.

An app like shelter allows to install apps to another profile, which can also be used to update them locally. This does not exist with work profiles.

Apart from that, work profile apps are integrated better. They have a normal app drawer placement, they can be added to the homescreen. They use the share portal as private space, using the app share2storage you can share files.

There is a quicksettings widget to turn them off, this doesnt exist for the private space.

Calling the OS integration better is a @bold hypothesis

Not sure if the this problem I have is related to the Private Space but it could be, So I am asking here. I installed the sandboxed Google Play Store in the Private Space. Now for some reason, I don't have access to an app because it's "not available in your country". But the app should only be available in the country I am located right now. When I then checked the Play Store country settings as explained here it tells me
"Switch to the COUNTRY Play Store" where COUNTRY is the country I am currently in (I am not using a VPN and have not left the country in a long time) and when I click on it nothing happens. So the country is somehow not set to the correct one (or not set at all, I can't tell) and changing is not possible.
Is this a known issue? I've already restarted the device (Google Pixel 6a) and changed from mobile internet to WiFi but it still does not work. I did not have this issue when I used the Play Store outside the Private Space (it's only installed now in the Private Space, nowhere else).

So can someone who has the Play Store installed in the Private Space click on "Country and Profiles" or "Switch to the YOUR-COUNTRY Play Store" or is it also disabled for you?

According to the help article you linked to, it looks like you can only change your country once a year. It sounds like you haven't done that recently, but maybe it's a new account and they won't let you change your country too soon after creating the account?

I have done this once before. Looking at the help article, I remember it wasn't easy to change my country either. You have to add a payment option for the country you want to change to before you can finish changing the country. If you are having issues with that, you might need to contact Google's customer support.
