Hey,

what is the most private Search Engine? I like SearXNG but I don't trust the Instances, because I don't know who host them. I did use Startpage but switched over to Brave Search because I don't like the Fact that StartPage is owned by an Ad Company and because I want to degoogle, I like Brave Search more. Because it don't show Google Results, like Startpage.

But is Brave Search really private? I have a mixed Feeling about that...Because there is always a popout about Data Collection and because of the AI Results. And because of the Crypto things in the Brave Browser, I have not a good Feeling about the Privacy of Brave in general and because of the paid Accounts too. And I heard that Data is sended to Google too..
What would be really the most private Search Engine?

[deleted] use any search engine that works without utilizing javascript (Google search won't work in that mode for example for obvious reasons).

DuckDuckGo is probably the best option. Its included in GrapheneOS as the default option afterall.

Even Surfshark, who run their own paid for search engine, rate DDG above their service

[deleted] How can I find them? And which do you know without utilizing javascript?

Rizzler Is it still the default? And what is the Reason for that? Because I remember that they had a scandal. Is it as default, because it is a better private option than Google or something like that? Or does it have specific better features than like for example Brave Search or Startpage?

PaulDavis Oh nice to know. Maybe it is better but I would guess that it means not that it is the best private Search Engine or am I wrong?

[deleted] Yes its still the default. Startpage is way shadier than DDG. And Brave doesn't have a cleen sheet either. Some people would say its worse than DDG i'd say its better. But i do trust DDG a lot more with the engine.

yeah I think there was a lot of discussion about DDG's relationship with Microsoft that was concerning, I'm not sure how that ended up recently though

Microsoft is pretty scummy without a doubt

I run Vanadium without javascript by default, which disables any cookie or script tracking. Unless it is required for proper site navigation and it that case I evaluate whether it is beneficial to enable it.

In browser Settings > Site settings > Javascript > blocked (global toggle)

See in address bar (top left settings button) for
            per site javascript settings.

You can use most of respected search engines like DDG, Startpage or Ecosia without javascript in plain html getting generic results, not tailored according to the tracking.
