Issues

  • Wired earphone via USB-C port will stop working when toggling the Network permission of music apps, and occasionally stopped working when switching between apps. Will hear a small electrical "pop" sound via the wires earphone before the audio output stopped.

Workaround

  • Reboot the Pixel GOS

**Why this is important*

  • Assuming most GOS users concern about privacy, wired earphones should be preferred than wireless options.

Senior Wired earphone via USB-C port will stop working when toggling the Network permission of music apps, and occasionally stopped working when switching between apps.

Is removing Network permission guaranteed to stop the audio?

Does app switching need to be from/to the player to stop the audio, or does it happen when switching between two unrelated apps? Does the player have unrestricted background battery usage?

Does unplugging and re-plugging the adaptor make output work again, or is rebooting necessary?

Can you name one or more affected adaptors?

I seem to remember that apps are supposed to be restarted when certain permissions are changed. Could that be what's happening here?

I could be remembering wrong and maybe apps don't restart when the network permission is changed, but if I am remembering correctly, this may be an explanation for what's being reported here...

de0u Thanks for your timely follow-up!

        • 1. Yes, removing or allowing network permission is guaranteed to stop the audio.

        • 2. No, switching between two unrelated apps, or even sometimes when I was just clicking a "Like"in Facebook would stop the wired audio occasionally.

        • 3. Yes, the app has unrestricted background battery usage.

        • 4. Unplugging and replugging won't work. Rebooting is necessary.

        • 5. Mic-Lock USB-C with SoundPass and Fiio JA11

p.s. Just the wired audio will stop. Afterwards, the speaker audio is working fine as always.

other8026 Thanks, UX-wise it makes sense to restart apps when permissions changed since this can be learned. What affecting UX is that the USB-C wired audio suspension will be triggered even no app permissions were changed, but just random activities when switching or using apps.

I had the same issue as well (Pixel Fold first gen). The USB-C port would randomly disable preventing the use of the port for anything other than charging (this seemingly happens when typing in text/search boxes while simultaneously using wired headphones or even a Yubikey). I first tried tinkering with the USB exploit settings which had no effect. Current Settings\Security&Privacy\Exploit Protection\USB-C port is set to 'On' with no restrictions.

Potential solution: Turning the following settings to 'Off' seemingly has fixed the issue for me without me having to reboot the device.

        Settings\Sound&Vibration...
        \Vibration&Haptics\Off
        \Tap&Click Sounds\Off

Hopefully this helps someone with the same issue as I can't tell you how annoying it was dealing with this issue.
