cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd great thing to read..
i am so deep in the garmin ecosystem... garmin fenix, garmin edge, heart rate monitor... that is a relief they policy are one of the best.

Anyone can confirm that Garmin watches don't need Google Play service to have geolocation privilege in order to catch GPS ? I mean, it is one thing to give your geolocation data to Garmin during your workouts, it is another thing to give it to Google at any moment ...

i have tested and installed gadgetbridge nightly on graphene os running pixel 6 an a fenix 7x which is not really supported. the fenix 7s is partially supported.
i installed nightly and choose scan unsupported devices and choose a similar device that is partially supported

you can see an screenshoot here:

Grapheneos on pixel 8, no google play services installed, using connect v4.77 as I can't stand the new connect interface. Forerunner 255. App fully works with these two exceptions: I do not receive call or text notifications on my watch and the map on activities does not load (it does load with google play services installed).

I'm using Garmin with GadgetBridge and it works great, also btw that The Garmin app privacy policy is terrible and stores all your health data online. I don't know why anyone would ever want that.

Icyj all apps stores all user data at their servers, but at least Garmin disables by default data shared with their partners.

I also use Gatgetbridge + OpenTracks with my FR955 and pretty happy

poplectic You need to configure Garmin Pay, then add the cards to the watch, using Garmin connect. After that, you can uninstall Garmin Connect then use Gadgetbridge without issues

I am a cyclist, swimmer and occasional runner, never a triathlete. Also weights several times a week. Two activities every day. Some of my electronics are SRM, but the bulk are Garmin. Because of Garmin's anti-privacy document I will NOT allow any Garmin product near the internet.

Health data is big business... It was the primary revenue source for companies like Strava for many years and there is no doubt it is money for Garmin too.
I hate this. Something may start innocently, but in a horribly cynical and depressing way, imagine the absolute worst in humanity and how it has come to pass. Imagine the worst possible way health data could be misused.

I keep my data on the device until I upload it to my laptop where it is imported into Golden Cheetah.

GC is a much more powerful analysis toolkit than any of the online services and a real learning curve. The only thing you won't get from it is the endorphin hit when someone gives you a like.
