I see Magic Earth recommended a lot. I've read their privacy policy and this part worries me:

We may collect information such as language, time-zone, search requests and routing requests, so we can improve the user experience and our services.

Does this mean they collect the search strings and the routes we take?

    Rizzler Whatever the case, it'll still be a lot better than Google Maps, Waze, Here etc., and it'll also display speed cameras accurately in France, whereas the other services don't. A must-have!

        Stewart Being a lot better than the most horrible option doesn't mean anything to me if they collect my searches and where im going.

          missing-root Yes id want to use them, but i need public transport to work well. OSMand gives bad routes with that and i dont think Organic Maps support it.

              Rizzler Organic Maps supports it, but just uses the OSM data, so no live data, delays etc.

              Not that useful.

              OSMAnd supports it? It would need a routing plugin like Öffi, technically very possible but I cant do it.

              In Germany I use Öffi for public transport.

                I have been looking for a Mapping service that has info on public transportation as well. In the end I found Magic Earth the only app which is having good results when it comes to transportation (except the ones you named as well (Google Maps etc.))
                What I like as well is the detailed street view when it comes to crossroads for example.

                      AlphaElwedritsch I was just wondering if my interpretation of the policy is correct. Its not clear to me what they mean exactly under these terms.

                        If its just general data about the number of searches etc. then it would be okay for me.

                          Rizzler I'll contact Magic Earth support and get back with what they say.

                              Magic Earth's privacy policy is detailed in a pdf file (below). I drive; routing information is "anonymously retained for 365 days". It's not great, but I can live with it.

                              Traffic functionality, though, is apparently retained in perpetuity ("anonymously retained").

                              You'll have to see what the pdf says about public transportation.

                              Because I saw consistently among map apps that privacy is worse concerning the use of traffic functionality, I created two profiles in GrapheneOS: one for the privacy respecting map apps (with traffic functionality toggled off) and one for the map apps I use for traffic functionality. In addition, I'm using RethinkDNS (1) to block analytics and also servers for data brokers (2) to use a vpn via a wireguard config file

                              Re: the privacy respecting apps, I've been testing several for the past several weeks that I'm very pleased with; none of them need GSF and Google Play Services. Maybe you could evaluate those for public transportation.

                                Eury How is Here WeGo, and Guru Maps more private? Genuine question. I just checked their privacy policies and they don't look good.

                                  Rizzler It's clear they collect that data. Even if it's not for bad purposes, they could be compelled by bad actors to provide that data to others.

                                  Convenience and Privacy are often a choice.
