If you can use it strictly offline your data should be fine, but if you need it for active use, that would be where the privacy would be a problem.

Gmaps WV https://github.com/Divested-Mobile/maps is another option; private if you want routing and don't need realtime navigation.

It uses GOS hardened webview to access the GMaps web page, block cookies, and to find very obscure loctations/addresses. It'll also open up Google street view to confirm destinations. It can then open up Magic earth or other on-device navigation which will provide turn by turn.

Realistically, at least for me, OSMAnd~ and Organic Maps aren't there yet because they can't even show street addresses or house numbers. I don't really care about which routes have more traffic or not, I'm old school so I like to suss out the directions beforehand.

Magic Earth is the only real alternative, and even with that there a couple hiccups.

And is it just me, or is the OSMAnd~ from F-Droid really laggy?

Rizzler unfortunately. Although I'm pretty sure it has public transport support from memory. I think I may switch to Organic Maps, that app performs better and is smoother than Apple and Google Maps 😂
