Hi,

I got a Pixel 7 and I am planning to install GrapheneOS. Is there any drawback of installing the early experimental build and then updating to the stable version later on or are the updates always "full" updates which replace the whole system? Would it be recommended to do a fresh install once the stable build is out?

Thanks for all the hard work!

My daily driver as well. I am pretty sure someone from GrapheneOS said that an update path once the stable version was released would be available, but I am unable to find the post to link it here.

I'm running the experimental build on my Pixel 7 as well, and have no complaints whatsoever. Very stable, no issues at all, and for the first time ever I feel like I actually have control over my phone.

@mythodical That's nice to hear.

My question is more about if there will be a smooth transition from beta to stable of if I have to reflash the stable version once released.

    Your transition will be seamless. It is listed as experimental owing to the fact that bugs may crop up and users should be prepared to come across them. However just like releases first hitting alpha/beta there is nothing to stop such builds swiftly and without change being moved to stable.

    You won't need to factory reset and you won't lose any data either when stable non experimental builds are released and you get the notification that your OS is updating.

    Hope this alleviates any concerns you have, if I've been too broad in my response or you want me to explain anything further let me know.
