Hi, I have tried to search forums, but search bar doesnt seem to work for me...
So I bought Pixel 6 and I am trying to setup screen lock on it. Only options I get are Pin, Password, None and Swipe. I am really used to having pattern lock (3x3 grid where you need to draw your pattern) but cant seem to find it. Is it ommited in Graphene?
Thanks!

    Pin and pattern are fundamentally the same. Just choose a pin that matches the pattern you would use.

    For example, a pattern that follows a square beginning at the upper left and moving down would correspond to the number pattern 1-4-7-8-9-6-3-2-1.

    There are some significant advantages to a pin over a pattern;
    1) an attacker can't assume that the pattern is continuous. A pin can jump from 7 to 3 without anything in between, whereas a pattern would go through other points.
    2) the oils on your fingers leave an impression on the screen matching the pattern you input, making it possible for an attacker to detect your pattern, even VISUALLY, just by looking at the smudges on the screen. Because a pin requires you to lift your finger between points, while it may be possible to detect WHICH points were touched, there would be no evidence of the ORDER.

    Thank you for replies, thats pretty fair, pin is not the fastest, thats what I liked about pattern, but I guess I will just use fingerprint and pin backup :)
    Thanks!

    Hmm, I wonder how this is handled in the code? Hypothetically, if one were to flash an outdated version of GrapheneOS from prior to July 2021, set up pattern lock, and then updated the OS to current, would that work?

      hemlockiv For people who set up the pattern prior to it being removed, they retained it after the fact. It was just removed as an option going forward.

      What about Number randomizing, where every time you type in your code the numbers are in a different order. I liked this feature on LineageOS. Is there a reason why this feature is not on GOS?
