With GrapheneOS basically sandboxing any app, I am confused why people use work profile apps. Do you just like being able to group together certain apps under one shared folder? Does scopes provide this capability?
Do scopes effectively replace the need for work profile apps (Shelter, etc)?
van2z work profiles are kind of like secondary user profiles, which are for different identities or uses. Like, for example, if multiple people use the same phone, use profiles. Also, if one person uses the phone, they an use profiles to separate work and regular life. Many GrapheneOS users use profiles to separate apps depending on whether they require or rely on Google Play.
I personally don't use a work profile, but I read that some people prefer them because they can do one or both of the following things: shut down the work profile whenever they'd like and/or have two instances of the same app at their fingertips (for example: personal Signal and work Signal).
Though I think it must be noted that work profiles are not in the same league of security as using a separate profile, I didn't really realise that myself straight away. Work profiles sound perfect, but depending on your threat model are deeply flawed when comparing to a true profile, however are often described or at least understood, as essentially identical.

Right. other8026's description seems to fit better with user profiles, rather than work profile.
Scopes seems to be a good replacement for work profiles then?
