So, I installed MS Word from Aurora and revoked its network permissions from the very beginning.

Without network, it works for some time before making it impossible to use the app without signin.

Once this happened, I uninstalled the app and made sure it has no leftover entries in Android folder.

However, upon reinstalling the app, it somehow knows it was installed before and doesn't allow to use it without signing in.

IP address is not an issue as I am on VPN so tried with another IP. I also revoked network permissions during app install prompt in both cases so they never pinged home to exchange data. I do have sandboxed Google services installed but with revoked network permission.

Am I missing something obvious? Is it possible that app left more leftovers somewhere else? Can't figure out why the freshly installed version knows it was previously installed.

Volen Apps have ways to directly recognize a profile they were previously installed in. There's the ANDROID_ID for example, see paragraph 4 here although I recommend you read the whole section: https://grapheneos.org/faq#non-hardware-identifiers

If you want to install MS Word in the Owner profile, resetting the device would most likely solve your issue. Simply installing MS Word in another user profile would also most likely solve your issue.

Volen I'm not sure what you mean here. I just tested opening Microsoft Word for the first time, with network permission revoked and then with network permission allowed. Word does not ever give me a choice to use the app offline. Highly unlikely that it has stored some data outside the app folder. Most likely Microsoft just doesn't want anyone to use Word without an account.

There is a skip button available in the app when using for some time. It disappears after some time so the only option is to login.

Thanks for this - somehow, I forgot about this section of gos manual.
