Hello, I have used LineageOS in the past and when I switched to GrapheneOS the one thing that stood out to me as one of the features I missed the most straight away, was the ability to hold the power button to turn the torch off or on: only if the screen is completely off.

And if you want to get to the "restart" phone modal, you tap the power button once, to have the screen on, and then it would give you the "restart" modal, instead of the torch. It is such a clean and stragihtforward and useful UX. And in Lineage it was implemented so that "quick torch via power button while screen is off" is a toggleable setting in the phone settings. I think the code for that feature is easily findable on their repositories, so half the work is already done.

Quick torch like that is especially useful, given now I have to double swipe from top to find my torch, because the first 4 are things that I want even quicker access to. And, in the dark, and while carrying bags or something and your hands are already busy, something like this makes a big difference.

What do you think of this, and would you (please) consider such a feature ?

Thank you,
WhatUsernameShouldIUse.

WhatUsernameShouldIUse This feature has already been requested and the project decided to pass on it. Please refer to this GitHub issue: https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/498

On Android 14, you can add the flashlight to the home screen as a shortcut here: Settings > Display > Lock screen > Shortcuts. It's not the same thing, but between the quick settings tiles and a lock screen shortcut, it's very easy to turn on the flashlight so adding yet another way to toggle it on/off is not really necessary.

sadly this essential feature have been dismissed for years

Like the app NewUser suggested, this, too, lets you "press both volume buttons for easy flashlight toggle"; furthermore you can preset the brightness for that shortcut.

There is also a "quick settings tile for fast access".
