  • Onlyfun Just be patient. Wait for the final product, then wait a little longer for the Graphene team to catch up. Then maybe wait a bit more till the prices drop.

After this is done, ignore the rumors about the P11.

    • @Graffiti You actually do have the option to lock the work profile:
Settings - Security & Privacy - More security & privacy - Use one lock

      • Graffiti I think shelter is fine. You have only 2+1 options. Another user profile, work profile, and the upcoming private space feature in android 15. You can pause the work profile to deny those apps from running in the background. Password locking the work profile is not possible, but if somebody got their hands on your unlocked device, you're srewed already. App lock is not real security usually. If you want real security, use the user profile feature. You can also wait for android 15 private space, it likely supports PIN locking those apps.

      • There is a robust Backup Manager built into AOSP that is present in all androids.

There are some nice diagrams here
        https://developer.android.com/identity/data/testingbackup

It relies on having a transport, or some transports, which have to be built into the OS. Every Android with privileged Google Play Services built in uses Googles transport. Some phone manufacturers also add their own alternative transport.

Googles transport has used end to end encryption for some years now.

As none of these transport providers offer any kind of interoperability with other transport providers theres no way for GrapheneOS to get access to this data.
        .
Its a bit old but theres more technical details about Back Manager available here if anyone is interested.

GrapheneOS currently uses seedvault for backups. There are plans to develop a new more robust backup app with support for pulling in as much data as possible from a previous phone. Sadly with the current state of backups on Android theres no way to get app data from stock Android operating systems.

          I do appreciate this topic.
          Very relevant.

I've been struggling with this for about a year now, trying to make a pain-free user experience for 2 other family members - and a practical solution for my daily use as well! 😀

I accept a little pain for some gain, as long as it is possible to get there in the end.

Good to be reminded of seedvault.
Perhaps Syncthing could be made to work?

That would move my data from the old telephone to the new, and potentially keep everything backed up to home server, NAS or similar.
