[deleted] Right now my parents are paying for it so im not complaining, and it works pretty good where I live. Porting means switching providers right? Id rather try and use google fi as privately as possible.

I am currently using a pixel 4a (using Grapheneos) on a google fi plan. Google requires the google fi app in order to activate your plan on said phone, and that needs to be signed in to sandboxed google play, as well as google fi, with my google account. I doubt this is very private, but what can I do about this?
If I remove the app and sign out of google play, SMS doesnt work properly. Is there any way to use google fi without a google account? Or maybe I can switch to a blank google account fo google fi?
Thanks for the help!

I need to be signed in with my google account on the google fi app to have SMS working properly. Being signed into google fi has also signed me into google play, with my main google account. (which I dont use anyone) So I have it working, but how private is this?
The only google related apps I have installed are google fi, carrier services (I think this is google, and I might not need it)and google play services. Is there a way to not use these? Or whats to most private setup I can use with these?
Here are their permissions: (I doubt these are the minimum, but is what works for now)

Notifications[deleted] Thanks for the info! I do use signal for some things, but its hard to get people to use the app, and I still want to be able to use sms when I need. Im using qksms right now and it works pretty well. I think I will stick with that, knowing that sms isnt very secure.
Im using google fi, and before switching to graphene I used google's messaging app. Im pretty sure it has end to end encryption for other google fi users (and maybe android users as well?). The downside ofcourse, is its google, and probably steals some data. But is it worth it for the e2ee? Ive heard that normaly sms messages arent very secure. So am I actaully increasing my privacy by using messages by google? (due the the e2ee)
I get that e2ee wont work for messaging apple users but thats fine
Im pretty new to graphene os, and im still figuring out how to use apps privately, and which ones to avoid. So thanks for the help.
