Hello
I recently started using the pixel 7a and I don't receive any notifications after 10-15 mins after phone is locked.
I have checked all battery and data options and there all unrestricted.

I was using a pixel 6a before so I put my sim back into that and it works perfect. But the 7a stops receiving notifications till I unlock it.

I'm not running any google services, its all standard grapheneos .
Any help would be great to sort this issue

User44887 This is probably due to battery saving stuff by the OS, even if apps are set to unrestricted. Unless apps are constantly running in the background, like Signal does for receiving notifications without Google Play, it makes sense that apps won't be checking for updates in the background while the phone is locked.

You say that it works on an older phone. Is that phone still running Android 13? It's my understanding that Google changed many things upstream to improve battery life in Android 14.

If the 6a is up to date and notifications still come through, then I'm not sure what could be causing the 7a to be acting differently. Maybe a wake lock or something.

      Sorry for the late reply.
How would i could i make the apps check for updates in the background?

Hmm no i think it might be running older version of android since you mention it.

And Also where could i find the wake lock? So sorry im kind of new to this

I don't think you can. Apps can attempt to schedule "alarms" to check for stuff, but the OS can defer this kind of thing. The only way to make sure you get prompt notifications is for something to run in the background to keep checking for notifications. Obviously, using Google Play Services for notifications is the one that most people use.

Unfortunately, it's a catch 22 for people who don't want Google Play running on their phone, but also want notifications.

I don't know how to check for that. I just know that it's a thing and basically how it works. There are others on this forum who like to keep an eye on their battery usage who might have a suggestion on how to easily figure that out.
