Hi,
I've been trying to restore a backup from my Pixel 4a to a 7 Pro as my new successor phone for countless times now to no avail. Apart from the local data backup, which I perform manually if necessary, I would at least like to transfer the apps with history and data. On the Pixel 4a backup I get 32 of 69 apps displayed as successfully backed up (green check mark). Not for the rest, for whatever reason? When I then install the backup on the 7 Pro, no app is installed at all. An orange exclamation mark is displayed for all apps with the note that I can try to install them manually, but how can this be done without ever having installed an App Store in this step?
I don't know what else I can do, any tips? Are there any general compatibility issues between the models backups from 4a to 7 Pro?
When I understand correctly, there is no alternative to Seedvault?
Thanks for your suggestions

Gerd unfortunately, Seedvault frequently just doesn't work. You can try searching this forum and you'll find many other people have been in your situation.

Replacing Seedvault is planned, but only the devs/project members know when that might happen. In the meantime, it's better to do things manually if possible. Or if Seedvault starts working for you, then you're one of the lucky ones.

I've also experienced some funkiness with Seedvault working at all. It kept prompting me that there were no valid backups to recover from.

I'm migrating from a Pixel 4a to a Pixel 6a & I did finally get it to work after refreshing the backup on the 4a to my USB flash drive & using the flash drive on the 6a to restore. It's restoring as I type this.

Well from nothing found to restore in a previous attempt, i created a fresh backup as well on the 4a...
(the former backup was an incremental one).
The pixel 8 now says: "An error occurred while loading the backup." Not very helpful.

other8026 luckily nearly all FOSS apps are used to not having good backup systems, so they all have their own Backup methods.
