Title says it all.

No, it's not possible to change the default webview. Vanadium provides the hardened WebView and apps utilising it benefit from a portion of Vanadium's hardening and security work, so there is benefit in this.

May I ask why you would like to change it, if at all?

cyberparty Thanks! I was mostly just curious. There are many other projects that provide somewhat hardened and improved WebView implementations. While Vanadium is secure and all, i think for privacy there are better options, so i was just considering the other options for that reason alone.

[deleted] Vanadium is privacy-respecting. What privacy shortcomings does it have that you are looking to remedy with other WebView implementations?

I think (based on this official post) that the question might be based on a misunderstanding. If I am understanding correctly, running on-the-web tests against Vanadium is testing Vanadium, not testing the WebView component, which is used internally by some apps. It's not clear to me how one would test WebView itself for privacy issues.

Overall, I think if you prefer the results that online privacy tests assign to browsers other than Vanadium then it may make sense for you to install and use browsers other than Vanadium. But you might want to consider other factors as well, such as whether a browser that is assigned a high privacy score is keeping up with security patches. GrapheneOS doesn't force users to browse with Vanadium, so it's up to you.

To add to what @de0u said, that's why many users choose to use multiple browsers for various reasons. From what I've gathered, much of what those tests you mentioned are just privacy theater. If you want true privacy and/or anonymity, tor seems to be your best option.

Personally, I use vanadium incognito tabs for the bulk of my web browsing needs.
