What Calendar App is best on Graphine?

I use a Synology NAS and basically use its caldav server to sync my calendar and family calendar across mine and my wife's devices. But you could do something simple on a Raspberry Pi I'm sure.

If hosting your own caldav server won't work then there used to be a free service called fruux that was essentially an online caldav server, but they seem to be defunct now. A paid alternative ($2/mo) might be https://www.etesync.com/

I got away from Google Calendar about 5 years ago and have been pretty happy about it.

ACrockz the CalDAV part. Android doesn't have DAV support built in, so you need kind of a bridge.

Right, so if you set up a Caldav service (through some service or on something you run yourself) then you would use Davx5 as the piece to sync to your phone. And then any number of calendar apps will display the calendar. I use Fossify Calendar.

It's not as complicated as it sounds :)

mmdrsmr Another +1 for Proton Calendar. Even aside from the privacy benefits and the fact that I'm a user of various other Proton applications, the app is just really good and has a lovely user interface

Not directly (at least AFAIK). You will still need a caldav server for DAVx5 to connect to. The caldav server could import & sync the Google calendar, then DAVx5 would sync from there to the phone.

I've used Nextcloud this way in the past, but that is probably overkill just for a calendar. I'm sure there are other options.

Yes. GrapheneOS has the AOSP calendar backend, just no client app to display it.

I think Google Calendar does allow caldav syncing and if so, it should be possible to use DAVx5 so sync it to your phone and then view it with aCalendar. You'd still be relying on Google for the time being until you move it over to a caldav server other than Google Calendar.

Using Proton here with no issues.

Checked out Tuta first but I was finding that it took like 2 minutes to login.

FWIW, I use two calendars: simple calendar pro (SCP), which provides typical (good) calendar functions to me using my android, and Etar, which is updated automatically by SCP, and which, unlike SCP is available to my watch.
Frequent manual backups of SCP sent to proton cloud.

Recommend using the Fossify Calendar fork. Simple Mobile Tools were sold to an adware company.

Lots of people recommending Proton Calendar but one of the criteria ACrockz had was shared family calendars, which I believe is only available as a paid feature of Proton Calendar. And if you want to share both ways you'd need two paid accounts. Worth bringing up.

Use any calendar program you like and backup or sync to other devices using syncthing. Why would you entrust your data to someone elses computer?

After a year with Fossify Calendar I can't really reccommend it.
A lot of crucial bugs which I wasn't aware before.
Missed a lot of appointments till i realized that the calendar is messed up and makes what it wants.
Back to etar !

Just FYI, I'm using aCalendar+ with multiple Google calendars on Graphene and it does work :-)

As a paid Proton user, I still prefer using my Nextcloud instance with DavX on the phones. Sharing works perfectly.
