Hi friends, since I installed GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6 I noticed that all the music and podcast apps are working weird and buggy. In particular, I tried SPOTIFY despite having installed all google services and downloaded from the play store.
I also tried other similar APPs like DEEZER but the results are the same. Does anyone know how to get the spotify app working properly?

mikelosat What happens to Spotify, does it crash? You might need to enable exploit protection compatibility mode for Spotify in the app info. It should then work fine.

If I recall correctly, Spotify has a memory corruption bug which is caught by hardned_malloc on GrapheneOS. It's up to the app developers of Spotify to fix that bug.

treequell I have enabled "exploit protection compatibility mode" but the problem is not the crash but the functioning
All the tracks I have in the playlist I can only listen to them for about 10 seconds, some keys don't work, for example if I try to move the cursor forward with the music it doesn't work.
If I try to search for a track when I select it, another track starts that I haven't requested and selected. It's like all the music and podcast apps have gone crazy they don't respond to commands.

mikelosat I haven't experience anything like that. Interesting that you are able to reproduce the same behavior with the Deezer app too. Do you experience any issues with any other apps, for example in Vanadium?

Yes, that's clear. As you're experiencing this in two apps, I was just wondering whether you were also in other apps too. I was trying to ascertain whether this is a broader issue with your phone, or something specific to those two apps. It would be useful if you could tell me if there is an app in which you are not having any issues with media playback.

If you're experiencing issues with the Spotify app on GrapheneOS, you could try some alternatives and see if you like them as possible replacements for Spotify! Exploring these foss alternatives might be a good idea as well. You might discover a new favorite app for podcasts or music streaming on Android!

AntennaPod is a popular podcast app that allows you to subscribe to and download episodes. It offers various features to enhance your podcast listening experience.

For music streaming, InnerTune is a great choice. It provides a seamless and enjoyable music streaming experience, allowing you to discover and play your favorite tracks, and even download music for offline play.

NorthPole78 Thanks for this advice that has definitively solved a problem that had lasted for months with GrepheneOS, now with INNERTUNE everything works like spotify once did on LineageOS. I don't know how to say thank you @NorthPole78, I had tried almost all the APPs from Google PlayStore and the solution was instead inside FOSS with INNERTUNE. It works great and is identical to spotify, Thanks so much.Solved

This was my intermittent experience with Spotify on every phone I've ever owned. Spotify seems to regularly push app and/or server updates that cause the app to become unusable in exactly this way. There's nothing to do but wait and it usually resolves itself. Sometimes that's thru an app update that finally becomes available, but more often it's some silent update on their servers.

It's more surprising that Deezer also has the same problem, but I've seen the same thing (much less frequently) on Tidal as well, so I suspect there's probably some common development process or technology music apps are using that causes problems like this.
