Feature Request : private DNS quick toggle

Hi,

Thanks for this beautiful piece of software.

The usage guide suggests using Private DNS, and indeed I use it for system wide ad blocking. However it's very cumbersome to turn on and off when needed (public WiFi etc...). There's a useful app called Private DNS tile in Fdroid which creates a tile to quickly toggle it on or off (or auto), however this involves running adb commands which I don't believe is recommended.

Any chance for this tile or (similar tool to quickly toggle Private DNS) to be included as part of default GOS ?

Why don't you simply use Private DNS all of the time? I'm unsure why you would turn it off when not on public wifi etc.

Is using always-on VPN with a VPN provider that has its own DNS server an option for you?

treequell not really for the same reason as above, it will break at work and some public hotspots

OldMan because it breaks the connection with my work wifi, prevents logging into public networks etc.. I keep having to turn it off when I'm away

I would like to raise some attention to that topic again.

GrapheneOS already considered network specific options for MAC randomization, which is great!

I would really appreciate to have a network specific option for DNS as well.

Some users (like me) use private DNS, but some networks seem to block that. So one has to leave those networks or one has to switch to automatic DNS, which is a bit annoying.

Opsiqut you've mistaken GOS with some other OS. Usability bells and whistles are not a priority. Explore Tasker, maybe it can be of help

littlerack It is not possible to circumvent the issue by an app, since those apps need specific permissions (WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS).

Opsiqut so what? Grant it, if that's that important for you and if having it will allow Tasker to achieve it (if you accept all the consequences).
