trying Molly now, looks promising
any plan for a Joe version?
Molly.im
italian_job what is a Joe version?
noob question, molly foss should be kept on unrestricted o optimised battery?
italian_job I run on the default (which is optimized) molly Foss and no issues with notifications or battery life.
thanks
Last release was on 2023-12-17 so exactly 1 month ago... https://github.com/mollyim/mollyim-android/releases
Meanwhile Signal had several (8) app releases: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/tags
Do you think this could be an issue with Molly?
Uhm, so... I tried using it, and maybe my fault but I tried logging in a few times, it took forever to load (the captcha for example took like 20s). In the end my Signal account was locked, no guide, no help, so I need to wait 6 days and try Molly again, account is gone.
Manna
Exactly. Security updates should be the only thing anyone is concerned with. I hate when apps push updates such as "Changelog: - Added language support for Swahili. - Added language support for Xhosa. - Expanded emoji selection", basically nothing worth updating for. Such trivial updates should only occur when there is a security update included.
I just downloaded Molly but it turns out I can't import my chat backup from Signal until Molly is updated, because it won't allow Backups from a newer version (seems like an artificial limitation but I dont know how to circumvent it).
missing-root what do you mean?
@Nuttso I guess the registration / Captcha loading / SMS verification just took very long, so I might have tried it multiple times. In the end Signal is blocked on all Apps and I need to wait for 6 days and my account is gone... So I will try to re-register with Mull, but yeah.
Also I was not able to log out of my phone which is strange but I guess matches the "Signal runs on one phone and one phone alone" idea. So I might have tried to log in to a device while already logged in.
missing-root did you had a vpn or bad connection while you tried to switch? Because the captcha is server side.
Yes, VPN. Maybe they use some shady blocklists, they used Recaptcha and after lots of issues switched to hCaptcha as if that would be the solution
Just got an email from Github this morning that a new release is out.
This release merges latest Signal v6.44.2. It features a new optimization aimed at minimizing battery consumption, specially for users of WebSockets-based notifications.
That sounds very interesting! I haven't tested it yet but if the battery consumption is lower than Signal that is a killer feature, even without setting up Mollysocket & Unified Push.
