Overnight battery drain issue on relatively fresh install (GPS?)

Hi, I just recently installed graphene on my new 9a. Today I woke up to a roughly to 50% battery.

According to the battery usage screen the culpable apps are Signal(Molly) and ProtonVPN. This does make sense on the surface since I don't have wifi and unfortunately a relatively poor cellular connection.

However according to the systems view, most of the drain is actually caused by the GPS system, not cellular. GPS works fairly poorly inside my apartment as well, and no apps have accessed location permission in days. All location settings are graphene default (wifi/bluetooth/network off), SUPL via graphene proxy.

Any idea what's going on or how to investigate this?

I wouldn't do thjs.

You might have the bug where GPS takes up power all the time. You can disable gps with the quick tile or in the settings while not in use. Hopefully there's a fix for it from google soon.

I turn location off, Location services all off, SUPL off, PSDS off, internet connectivity checks, off.
I use similar apps to you and find with additional GrapheneOS apps I don't use, disabled; with minimal use all day my battery may drop 20%, but I stress I use my phone almost like a Dumb phone with an on screen key board.
I can get days from a full charge.

I agree with Johnnyloans that those three are not likely to be involved in substantial power drain.

A little bit off-topic, but I always wondered, how apps behave with the internet connectivity check down?
I am curious about VPNs, mostly.

maybe so, but having location services off and Vanadium disabled, I don't need to know satellite positioning, similarly satellites don't need my position either. Minimal battery drain or not... its personal choice.

GPS does not provide satellites with information about where a device is. A device using GPS for positioning receives data sent by satellites; the device doesn't transmit, and the satellites aren't listening anyway.

Fetching PSDS data doesn't reveal the device's location to the PSDS server (source). Depending on implementation details, SUPL may or may not track the device; it is claimed that Google's does not (source).

All the apps I choose to use in addition to GrapheneOS, work as expected.
I don't use a traditional VPN on my phone, I use Orbot.

I had more drain in march, now it got better but still not as good it was in december. I did not add any apps, but of course I let the apps to be updated. We will see. There are cries on reddit over the stock android too.. I'll try to survive it until the moto comes, then i'll decide
