Trying out a few dating apps, and they don't seem to be working. These apps were obtained from aurorastore and worked fine on my previous phone. Play store is also not working, connection error as soon as I opened it. Uninstalled aurora in an effort to switch to the play store, but now I don't have access to either one. Instagram and snapchat are working perfectly, but Tinder, Hinge, and Play store can't establish a connection. Installed a fresh copy of the play store and it's the same situation.

Haven't ran into this issue before, and I've had all kinds of apps on this phone before without any issues, all from aurora. Have never used the playstore on any of my graphene devices.

Sorry for the run on paragraph,

James9x19 Dating apps and GOS, hmm what a combination. Mate, you should stick with the boundaries GOS gives you. It cuts away the trimmings, and yes the flavour diminishes slightly, but what you have here is a healthy product. So please keep it that way, otherwise don't complain if you develop metabolic syndrome.

My apologies, this didn't come out quite the way I wanted, but I guess you may have got my message. Many users realize they have a problem and come running to GOS for a quick solution while intending to preserve their old habits and turning it into a tinkering platform and along the way ruining all the benefits they could have had.

[deleted] Theres no point in gatekeeping GOS like that and Id argue in the end its actually counter productive since it pushes people away. You have no way of knowing what value they are getting out of using dating apps so you are in no place to judge. Besides, using mainstream, closed source apps and services in general on GOS isn't antithetical at all to the projects' goals, it might be antithetical to your goals but that isn't a good reason to judge the way others choose to live. Using mainstream/closed source apps on GOS isn't pointless at all since the main benefits of GOS like the Play Services compatibility layer, the hardened memory allocator, the permission toggles, storage scopes etc can still fully be put to good use. There is no "ruining" of benefits here and whether someones doing something out of habit and whether this habit is good or bad is up to them. Rather than practicality and technicality you're arguing philosophy and IMO this isn't really the place for it

James9x19 What kind of connection error do you get in Play Store ? Things you could try:

        • make sure all google apps are installed (Google Play Store, Play Services and Services Framework) and configured correctly (network access granted, battery optimization exemption for Play Services)
        • if Play Store doesn't connect I'd just try rebooting first. It has solved issues with it for me once. If Play Store does connect then, check for updates. It might find an update for Play Services which is good to install.
        • if you can't get Play Store to connect, uninstall all 3 Google Play apps and any other app that depends on them then reinstall the 3 Google apps first. Make sure Play Store does work this time and is able to connect. Maybe reboot again just in case. If it does connect, look again for any update for Play Services through Play Store. Finally, install your other apps like Tinder and Hinge.
        • you could try enabling 'Exploit protection compatibility mode' in your apps' settings and making sure 'Enable native code debugging' is enabled in Security settings, but I doubt that's what causing you trouble.

Keep in mind that if you reinstall Play Services apps, you might have to also reinstall Snapchat and Instagram if they depend on Play Services for push notifications for example.

233328 I don't judge, merely summarize my observations on this forum. I no longer feel comfortable here so you won't hear from me. Not that long ago many internet sources "marketed" GrapheneOS as a way to completely deGoogle. Now people find out how hard it is to actually live that way and keep piling layers of compatibility on it. Oh well, I'll keep using it my way.
