Globally the flagship market is 18% of all sales in 2025. The biggest sellers there are Apple and Samsung.

In Motorola's case we talk about sold units in the thousands, not millions. Apple and Samsung have millions, but still much less than their lower prices models.

How many of the Motorola flagship owners might want to use Graphene OS? Realistically it won't be more than a few hundreds. Because overall there aren't many.

Even on Pixels where you could install it on used Pixels you can buy for 150-200$ the market share of Graphene is some thousand users.

How could it be more on a 1k phone?

I see it differently. Motorola has an enetrprise/buisiness security model for corporate phones. Using GrapheneOS as the system on which to run their security on, they can become the go to flagship device for assured secure hand held devices in which corporate secrets can remain safe. Thousands of employees, who would not normally choose GrapheneOS or even know of its existance, will have first hand use of it via their company phones.
This would leave the Pixel market for individuals not willing to shell out huge amounts of money for a flagship corporate device.
Graphine becomes wider known and brought ito the mainstream thinking, rather than looked at negitavley.

mercury i previously agreed generally with the opposite of this but I can agree also here.

note: there is a ton of work to make it look more like candy and functionality of 2026. meaning aosp is not enough.
It cannot work the way, that the new users will search this forum each will create a post "new to graphene, please help" and will ask how to sync the corporate calendar.

No. This is the same thing as upgrading from a pixel 9 to a 10

You still have the same apps, software, google play services.

if its an official partnership maybe that will become a supported OS

Interesting on one hand maybe GOS will support Moto gestures/moves? (very handy)

MineralWater Motorola is not targeting only individuals but also business organizations with that partnership. The sales will not be equivalent to an iPhone or a Pixel but a few hundreds is exaggerated for me. The partnership will significantly help GrapheneOS to be trusted and recognized for what it is "a secure and private operating system" and if the customer will have the choice to get GrapheneOS preinstalled as I expect it will help the sales a lot.

In couple months, Google will launch the Pixel 11 with the new Titan M3 and Android 17. The Pixel 10 series is already a lot of work for GrapheneOS and they might not even want to work on the next Pixels or Google may no longer allow to unlock the bootloader.

@GrapheneOS, Could you please give a heads up to Motorola to implement the IEEE 1789 standard?

It's about how not to get nauseous looking at an OLED phone screen.

Google Pixels are notoriously bad at this, there are multiple threads in this forum and over XDA as well.

Apparently, many people suffer from OLED sensitivity, and for a high-end flagship phone, it'd be great to be able use it carefree.

TrustExecutor same here. I don't understand the big squabble about the price. It was expected and communicated prior to the official announcement. You can't have a secure phone without it costing something.

Until the market changes where phones meeting GrapheneOS' standards are the norm, the prices aren't going to decrease much, if at all.

Congratulations to the Graphineos team and Motorola. This is a great way for the Graphineos project to level up and also increase its reach.

This isn't really the time to start moaning about phone sizes and costs. They won't be compulsory, pixels will still be supported.

As a small phone factor user myself, my pixel 8 is the perfect size and I much prefer the curved back that phones nowadays don't seem to have. However, looking at the specs of the Signature it has a bigger screen than the pixel 8 pro whilst being same weight the pixel 8. That is certainly a combination I'm excited to try.

I'm also very excited about the possibility of graphineos on the forthcoming, razor fold.

A bit off topic, but generally you can do that, if you subsidize a cheaper phone with gains from more expensive, high margin phone sales. Apple is a great example of that: they only use flagship SoCs across the board, with all security features present in every price range. But they can only really do that, by selling somewhat overpriced flagships.

For Android devices though, since many tiers of processors are available, manufacturers often choose to skimp here and save a few bucks that they don't even necessarily pass down to consumers. Google maybe is the exception here, by providing the same Tensor chips across the board. But the rest of the industry, including Motorola, looks pretty grim.
