Do you understand how the the bootloader works? They wouldn't be partnering with Motorola if they couldn't even unlock the bootloader to install GrapheneOS to begin with.

So the answer to your question is Yes, they will allow unlocking and relocking of the bootloader...it's a requirement.

I would like to know why they even do this? Motorola doesn't gain a profit(maybe their goal is to move all the Graphene users from Pixel to Motorola), but still after u install a GrapheneOS and no type of data is being collected, what type of gain Motorola it will achieve especially if we see their shady history?

However, the fact we will have install manually GrapheneOS on the Motorola devices, it has been said from an official statement of GrapheneOS or are just rumor? The announcement on both parties doesn't talk about the technical details.

Clicker I'm pretty sure it's because for an OEM to ship an Android OS with GMS they must enter an agreement to not ship any Android devices without GMS.

Yes, you have to install GrapheneOS yourself. That's how it's always been. Google Pixels DO NOT come preinstalled with GrapheneOS, you have to install it yourself (unless you buy it from an online store that preinstalls it). GrapheneOS will always recommended installing it yourself.

Based on what I understand, one of the main benefits Motorola gets out of this partnership is a secure and private OS for their corporate/enterprise customers. I believe another is assistance with fast and high quality security updates for their devices, most OEM's are far behind on updating to the latest AOSP releases and Android Security Bulletin's in a timely manner. Another potential benefit is more device sales as GrapheneOS becomes more known to regular consumers (not just the ones already privacy and security conscious).

GrapheneOS has been publicly available for many years. It can be installed on one of the supported devices via grapheneos.org/install/web or purchased preinstalled by a vendor selling it. It's very easy to install and that's what we recommend. The FAQ has a recommended devices list.

I have said that it's shady that they partnering with an OEM that have a shady history. They're wanna build a phone following all the requirements provided by GrapheneOS and the phone still doesn't even come with the built-in Graphene operating system. Motorola gain of this? Completely nothing, only the revenue about the costs of phone.
I didn't said that it's shady that i'm installing by myself GrapheneOS. It's shady the whole OEM story.

JollyRancher If an OEM chooses to comprise their firmware for intelligence reasons, they can compromise a substantial percentage of the devices security and it is very difficult to detect.

If this is your view, would this differ between Motorola and Google?

I bought my Moto G Play 2023 from Walmart Canada for $125 CAD a year ago. I just checked - it is OEM Unlockable! So my theory is Costco phones may also be OEM Unlockable. Well, we'll find out eventually!

For Qualcomm and MTK CID device, to unlock your bootloader, you have to submit a request on this website, which is pretty bad on its own (wink Huawei).
In addition, this forum post says that once a device passes a certain age (the age not being specified), the device becomes ineligible.
Motorola also requires the phone to have a stable internet connection for at least a week for the bootloader to be unlocked, this is not mentioned anywhere on the unlock website but has been confirmed by posts on the Motorola development forum.
Once your bootloader is unlocked, on some devices, Motorola will not allow you to relock, attempting to re-lock will brick your device, however this doesn't seem to affect all devices.

No they don't have any sway for the first edition of the phone's Motorola is building to meet the requirements of GrapheneOS.

The initial devices we support likely won't but future devices could have one. The initial devices will be flagships and if you look across a bunch of OEMs, you'll find 3.5mm headphone jacks are rarely available on flagships. They're still around for lots of low end devices.

Mainstream phones never included a high quality DAC for high quality 3.5mm output. Apple/Google USB-C DAC is higher quality than what they used to include in iPhones and Pixels.

A major factor in the low number of USB-C headphone/headset options was the lack of iPhone USB-C.

They support USB-C storage and there are also lots of end-to-end encrypted storage options which don't result in data loss with device loss

And what if the sdcard dies or gets lost? It's not a backup system.

this is great news now please make a de-google non AI version that still works with apps that need the ridiculous auth for some apps. the apps should not depend on google that is a security/privacy risk in it self.(I know I am asking for a lot and not possible because of google.) ADDED.. under $400CAD.... times are hard with my POS gov(lib).(sd slot, 2 sim, 3.5mm, front camera hidden like moto one hyper. i have that phone now with crDroid and can not find a good replacement.)

ns718 I would not hold on to a device that is 3 years past EOL if they paid me. Sooner you get rid of it for any GrapheneOS supported device https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices that you can afford, the sooner you have avoided a potential disaster.

I don't think I am able to purchase a Pixel phone since my family will think i'm replacing the current Samsung Galaxy A16 phone I recently got from Boost Mobile.

Correct, it will never be supported in the present or in the future as it does not currently meet the GrapheneOS hardware requirements.

TheAGames10 Sadly, your device cannot support GOS, but in addition, installing an alternative operating system on Samsung devices blows a fuse (e-fuse) and prevents you from using the operating system with its security features intact, even if you revert to the original operating system, the device becomes unusable and you lose your warranty.

If you really want GrapheneOS now, you can try selling your Samsung Galaxy A16 and getting a Google Pixel 9a or 10a, or even a used Pixel 8a which still has 5 years of full security updates, it's worth it.
