  • Organic Maps Requires Global Location Services to Be Turned ON?

Can anybody help me with why Organic Maps requires global Location Services to be turned on? Is this something I'm doing wrong or is the app set up that way?

I have Location permissions enabled for the app in the Apps Settings. But when I access Organic Maps, it pops up this message:

Please enable Location Services
You currently have all Location Services for this device or application disabled. Please enable them in Settings.

When I click the provided "Go To Settings" button, it takes me to the global settings to enable Location Services for the whole device. I don't want to have Location enabled globally. I only want it enabled for select apps and only while the apps are being used. Is it not possible to use Organic Maps' GPS without enabling Location Services globally or is it me who does something wrong with this?

What you see is the notification that your GPS is completely off, so even though you allowed Organic maps to look at the data from GPS, you haven't actually turned GPS on.

When you turn on GPS (or location services), only the running apps that you have explicitely allowed the access to the location casn see and use those location services.

If you don't need location, you can still dismiss the notification and map would work. Without GPS it just wouldn't show you your location and navigation wouldn't work. But you can look up places etc.

[deleted] Thank you for this explanation. I guess it's the legacy from my previous, non GOS phone, where I had Location services globally turned off, but selectively turned them on in the maps.me app settings, and it worked. And I mistakenly expected that GOS would work the same. Now I have a better understanding of how GOS works. Thank you again.
