Pixel 9a Recently Lost Notifications

My @GrapheneOS on my Pixel 9a stopped giving me notifications from Google Voice and Google Chat.

None of my setting changed since it was working, and over the holiday I can't say exactly when it started but I expect it was with the recent update or two that came out.

I've asked looked and around a bit, and the usually suggestions are to check the permissions for notifications for Google Play Services, as well as the battery mode. I have checked both.

I also checked for updates again and have restarted the phone. Anyone have any other suggestions?

LexPendragon I'm having the exact same issue. Every other chat app is working fine, but Google Chat isn't all at once. I've checked notifications at all levels and they're enabled. I've also noticed that nothing from it shows up in the Recent Conversations view in Settings, for example when I'm trying to set priority conversations. It's happening for both group chats and individual conversations. I'm on a Pixel 8.

I can confirm this behavior with Chat. Notifications are enabled but do not occur.

I'm having same issue on Pixel 8 Pro. I think something happened with the channel Google Chat uses from the system to provide notifications. I looked at the Chat notification settings on another device to match up if they looked the same and they do not. I will attach screenshots. The other device is getting proper notification settings and mine is not (other device is a stock pixel 6 pro, carrier unlocked purchased direct from google).

FYI, my device:

Device: Pixel 8 Pro
GrapheneOS Build: 2025112101 (not seeing this listed on release page for P8P, official Stable build ends in **00)
GrapheneOS Channel: Stable
Google Chat app: v 2025.11.17.83321046.Release

*** Chat is running inside a "Work" profile via Island app with Google Play Services & Store installed from Graphene's App Store app into that Work partition.

Troubleshooting:

Wiped cache for Google Chat app
Wiped cache for Google Play Services and Google Play Store
Reinstalled Google Chat app from Google Play Store (the other version I think I installed via Aurora Store app)
Reinstalled Google Play Services and Store
Still no joy.

So here is the gist:

On the phone that is working with stock google, the chat app is passing a Conversations block that populates recent chats, both one on one and groups.

On my GrapheneOS phone, that whole block for Conversations is missing showing only "Notification Categories", which isn't populating anything except "Show unused categories".

Something is def broken, just not sure what. I think I've troubleshot it enough that I think it isn't an app specific issue, feels more system issue. The other problem I noticed is this: My current build # (posted above) isn't listed on the official Stable build site from Graphene here: https://grapheneos.org/releases#husky

I'm curious why that is.

CaptainProton Not sure about issue of app itself but the build you mention "01" is not listed in stable because it is opt-in alternative build that only differs in providing security updates that are still under embargo and yet not have been released yet due to change of Google release policy:

Eventually the 01 will be released in stable channel after embargo will drop as normal, so the main difference is that you are getting those updates in 01 ahead but those changes are still not listed in repository of GOS yet, till they can do it.
Thats why it is opt-in, becasue it breaks a sense of open-source a little bit (since you cannot see them yet in repository when released, but after an embargo drops) but nobody is forced to use those versions.

Ohhhhh good to know! For life of me I couldn't figure out why it was different. Hmmm, I wonder if my opt-in for that could be what broke my google notifications and traffic. Someone on the Discord recently mentioned that theirs isn't working also and their build also shows the 01 at the end.

Do you know-- If I opt out, will it revert back to the standard build?
