Boots, goes blank when I try to log in, needs to be rebooted, goes blank.
Pretty concerned right now.

Graphite1 I'm pretty sure that's intended. Devices can't be run at so much brightness for a longer time.
Since the Pixel 8 line, we have crazy high brightness, and the device can't sustain that. So it's probably just the peak brightness going back to what it can sustain

That peak brightness is meant for quick bursts when you need to use the device in the sun for a quick message

Peak brightness is only reached with adaptive brightness turned ON. According to Google Pixel manuals.

Mine is set to OFF. It should be able to sustain 100% brightness since it is already capped.

With adaptive turned ON, it can reach the peak max for short periods of time then back down again.

Update:

It seems okay now but it was crashing over and over while installing. Rebooting over and over and trying to unlock it eventually worked, but this is pretty odd.

Did you save the kernel crash logs? They might be useful if any developer wants to investigate this.

Happy it's finally here. Works flawlessly with the exception of being very ugly and I hate it. But that's not GOS's fault. But Google's UI team should get fired for what they did. It's so ugly. Looks like we went back to Gingerbread with the ugly status bar icons. Disgusting.

I don't understand how it makes things more complicated, or how it's a problem at all. Does the rest of us that don't complain have a declining cognitive ability, lack of independence, AI thinking patterns?

Are we even speaking about the same thing? The new icons in the status bar. Because if we are then you guys are wayyy out there now...
The only one that looks different is the battery icon, and that took me 0,2 ms to get used to

The new icons themselves are ok, but absolutely unnecessary. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I think my point is not pointless
My other comment is admittedly out of place, but must not be underestimated. My phone seems more and more like a child's toy (I bet many agree to that) and I feel more and more incapacitated. I just feel very uncomfortable how things evolve and where this might lead to. I am aware that I maybe sound like some paranoid conspiracist, yet it is still something people should at least give a think about

When pulling up the app drawer there seems to be a big empty space above the search bar. Haven't seen anyone mention it and wondering if that's just on my Pixel 9P XL 🤔

What a lovely surprise this update is. Love to experience the new haptics and UI responding seemlesly. The main thing missing from the UI i would say is the updated sound effects. The old ones no longer fit in with the upgraded looks. Does anyone know whether a sound effect update is planned?

tinymonster Consider making a github issue for this, but most likely it contains some google specific code which isn't part of AOSP.

Did anyone else notice that the scrolling sensitivity seems to have changed with QPR1? Flicker scroll trigger seems more sensitive.

Me personally I liked the old UI better. Those new transparency designs can't be changed, it can be a little minimized in the accessibility settings, but the transparency stays.

Overall I liked the former clean look better. It's more like a kids UI now.

Woke up to 2025112101 installed on my Pixel 8a. None of the crashing problems for me.

The one issue I do have is that "tap to check phone" wasn't working. A reboot got it back. But, it sounds like this is a known issue in upstream that will come back in a free hours to a day. Another issue (that might actually be the same issue) is that my touchscreen is unresponsive for about 5-6 seconds after I unlock my phone. That's going to get real old if that comes back too.

advokate I'm not trying to be a dick questioning what you don't like about the new UI. The battery icon might be a problem with certain backgrounds, but idk as I use the standard black.
Isn't the Wifi and mobile connection icons easier to glance over and perceive what their levels are at now?

Maybe I'm in the minority about this, I'm pretty basic about looks. I'd still use GrapheneOS if I had to run it off a potatoe with an integrated screen.

spl4tt had iphone 13 with ios 14 a couple years ago. The battery icon, wifi and double-simmed network icons are one to one iphone had. After installation I felt like booted into iphone again. JEZES KRAYST.

Hey don't know which update caused this however editing images via the pencil icon in the sharing menu doesn't work anymore.

The media player notifications are also still broken with multiple media players since the last update.
