OpenBoard (the open source version of GBoard) has more customization in "Appearance & Layouts" menu. For example, it offers adjusting height, changing theme, auto day/night mode, Black OLED.

I'm wondering if these could be implemented in the default GOS keyboard.

I believe the GrapheneOS keyboard is the same as the one provided with AOSP.

I don't think there is a black OLED theme or the option to change height. But you can certainly change the theme between light and dark modes manually or ask it to follow system settings. If you set your phone to switch between light and dark modes automatically under Settings > Display > Appearance, the keyboard will follow that.

Any thoughts on possibility of increasing key size. Default is a bit small and open board has been blocked by my HSBC app
Thanks!

You should really just consider the AOSP keyboard as a backup in case your favorite keyboard app causes trouble for some reason.

Also, HeliBoard is an active fork of OpenBoard that fixes some annoyances of OB and adds many useful features.

    True, OpenBoard is abandoned afaik.

I prefer FlorisBoard as I want my keyboard to have the perfect size. In my 4a it was half of the screen, on the 6a it is a bit less.

The AOSP keyboard really isnt great and that is not a problem. There are HeliBoard, Floriaboard, FUTO Keyboard, Fossify Keyboard, Unexpected Keyboard, KryptEY and probably more cool keyboards
