Hey guys,

I currently have a new Pixel 6a and I am interested in switching to Graphene OS for privacy/open source reasons.

I have a question about my cellular network provider. I am currently using consumer cellular, and the Pixel 6a has the consumer cellular SIM card in it, and I have activated the phone by calling the support line.

My questions is: If I install Graphene OS (by just following a guide on youtube) will my phone no longer have consumer cellular on it? And will I have to reactivate and reconfigure the phone? Additionally will my phone number be lost as well?

Or will Graphene OS preserve the cellular plan and my phone number?

Thank you, sorry if this is a noob question.

Hi there! You'll be able to use your SIM card on GrapheneOS just like you do currently and keep your phone number and cellular plan.

That's all determined by the SIM card, not the phone or the OS.

Note that to install GrapheneOS on your phone, a web installer is provided on their website to do it all for you:
https://grapheneos.org/install/

I'm not sure which YouTube video you are referring to, but best to stick to the official guide from the GrapheneOS website

13 days later

I've installed mine using the guide from the website, but found later a video done by Side Of Burritos on YouTube, who goes over the guide and demonstrates the process along side, which I found very informative and instructive even after I already completed the process myself. I can imagine that it would be very helpful for someone still new.
