Sorry I don't clearly understand. We now have 3 settings regarding quality?

Image quality (100%)
wait for focus -> what will give the best quality?
full resolution -> very large files

Someone understands this focus setting? Regards

Image quality (100%)

This controls the JPEG compression quality. 100% disables the main way JPEG is lossy but it still does color sampling, etc. so it's not lossless. There will be RAW DNG support soon for lossless photo capture.

wait for focus

This makes it wait until it has a full focus lock before taking a picture. It's not normally done by other camera apps such as Pixel Camera and results in pictures being taken slower. People usually just wait for it to get mostly into focus and take a picture. Waiting for it to confirm it's locked adds time and isn't necessary for taking pictures with proper focus. It's just an option.

full resolution

This enables using the full resolution on phones which use a lower resolution by default such as using 12.5MP instead of 50MP. Pixels do this but don't currently offer support for using the full 50MP due to how photos are processed. It will likely eventually be supported. Note that you aren't losing any data from the image sensor and the difference in resolution will not be visible on a regular screen without zooming in a lot. Pixels are using a typical approach of combining data of 4 pixels from the image sensor into 1. 4k resolution is ₈.3 MP so you can see 50MP is quite overkill if you aren't heavily cropping or zooming which is why devices with it typically don't actually use it for the output other than an opt-in feature.

GrapheneOS Enabling the highest photo resolution on my pixel 8 doesn't seem to do anything, all photos taken from the camera app are 4080 x 3072 (12.5MP), is it not supported on the 8?

Thank you for this awesome improvements on the camera app!
However, full resolution does not work on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, if I enable the option "use highest photo resolution" it will still shoot in 12.5 MP.
I must add that I do not have Google Services installed.

The same issue appears on my Pixel 7 as well, it will not create photo's of 50MP, however, it does not throw a GNSS-error after rebooting.

They don't support this API for enabling using the full 50MP instead of 12.5MP where 4 pixels are converted into 1. The toggle is confirmed to work on other devices with a similar setup where there's support for enabling saving photos with the full resolution with the regular image processing pipeline.

Ah, I see, then there is no issue!
Also, that GNSS error was just a one-time fluke, I haven't seen it anymore sinds, so it must've coincided at the wrong time, I wrongfully related the error to the camera app.
Anyway, thank you for all the hard work you've put into it all, we all really appreciate it, I just want you, and the rest of the team to know that! (-:
