My Pixel 8 screen is broken. It is usable but flashes purple lines and green pixels at full brightness, regardless of brightness setting. I'm living on autopilot these months because of reasons, so I didn't think or research and just bought a Pixel 10 Pro in the store. I said the only think I care about was decent pictures, so by store recommendation, for the first time I bought the more expensive Pro.
Only after unwrapping it and attaching the cable to flash GrapheneOS did I learn it is not ready yet. I didn't know the Pixel 10 was literally just released and I didn't know Google made some moves to inhibit the usefulness of the liberties that come with the AOSP license.
I can try to bring it back to the store even though I unwrapped it, and buy a Pixel 9 in stead. Or just wait with my still usable broken screen until Pixel 10 support is achieved by the GrapheneOS team. I ducked some duckgo and learned QPR1 should be released tomorrow (september 3rd). I have no idea how long the porting takes (weeks?) and how long supporting the new Pixel 10 takes, but in the past GrapheneOS was super quick with new devices.
So when making a dozen assumptions, I think Pixel 10 support may be in at the end of September? I can wait a month with the broken screen. Do you think I'm being overoptimistic or naïve?
I'D like to thank the GrapheneOS team for making my life simpler. You don't know how much you rely on a system until you accidentally buy an unsupported device.
