Okay, my apologies for using incorrect terminology because I do think when discussing technology, semantics, and definitions really matter. However, the quintessential question that that video raises, and something I am sure everyone in this forum is interested in, is this: Does Google's move to no longer share binaries and device trees signal an intent that they are 'locking down' the Android ecosystem, similarly to the way Apple controls theirs? This article would seem to indicate not, but sometimes the intentions and motivations of these large corporations are elusive at best. If the answer to the quintessential question is YES, I would really like to know how long do I have to make software and hardware choices that allow me to remain independent of the technology companies that don't respect our privacy.
