I haven't dug into the particulars yet, but a Dev and content creator I respect and follow on Odysee, posted this last night:

At 00:19 / 08:57 he talks about how Google's decision to not share the device trees and driver binaries are going to effectively kill custom ROMs like Graphene. A lot of claims he makes are backed up with screenshots from Google's own documentation. However, there are no specifics on how Google might kill custom ROMs or the creative modding of Android systems in general. Admittedly, I am not sophisticated enough to know if this is hyperbolic rhetoric or realistic. However, on its face, Google copying Apple's playbook does not seem far-fetched at all. I swear I'll port my number over to a prepaid flip phone, and just carry a tablet with a touch enabled Linux distro with mobile service before I get plugged back into the matrix.
