So I realize this has been discussed, but I just want to ask for clarity's sake: Can I be certain that the Pixel 10 will be supported eventually?

I purchased a Pixel 10 Pro XL near launch and am very satisfied with the deal I got for it as well as the hardware, cameras, performance, etc. But I am waiting for GrapheneOS support before I fully switch over to it and use it for anything important. My return period ends in a few days. I don't mind waiting days, weeks, or potentially months before I can use GrapheneOS on it and I understand this situation is out of the devs' control, but I don't want to end up keeping it only to not be able to use it. Can I be assured that it will be supported eventually?

Well no, you can't be assured of anything because it's a voluntary and free service and the priority appears to be Android 16 and the existing device range.

It is highly likely that the 10 series will be eventually supported, and they will certainly do their best - but it appears to me that they have other priorities at the moment, and are also facing delays because Google has been taking their time with other bits.

anonsocials Thanks. I am very grateful for everything the devs do and will understand and respect their efforts regardless of whether it receives support or not. I am just trying to decide whether to return it or not. I suppose I can always sell it if I need to.

Buy it again when GOS supports it. From what I understand it would have had GOS on it if already if it wasnt for Google making it more difficult. So IMO, send a msg.

Going to reiterate for clarity, if you're looking for GOS support in the near future you're better off buying the 9. There is no guarantee GOS will support 10 now or in the future. I also do not believe support for the 10 is a current priority. I closely monitor the discord and GOS has even said they have not started work on P10 support via discord:

That being said, I own a P10 and I'm optimistic GOS is on track for a December/January release if QPR2 is available by then.

There were concerns that it would not since the Tensor G5 is made by TSMC instead. Concerns about it having the newer style cores.

I really would like to get Pixel 10 for GOS as they have fixed camera bar detachment issue too which was quite big issue on 9 series. Even local i know had same issue where summer temperatures contributed to soft glue loosening and bar detached, 10 has better build if looking to teardowns(not Pro, just casual 10) I wish good luck to GOS team and i hold on purchase for now.

Has Google even released the source code yet of QPR1? As long as they don't do that there's no hope of a GOS release for the P10 afaik.

Asking this every week isn’t helping. I’m sure there will be an update from the team when this is actually released.

I fear they won’t release QPR1 at all and instead will release QPR2 in a few months.

wuseman No, it doesn't help. But, it's honestly made worse when there are no official updates from the team as we're left with speculative responses. So, I understand the concern others have as I share them myself. We haven't heard anything since August 27th and we're almost in October.

Go blame Google for not releasing the update needed to start working on it, not the GrapheneOS team.

The last we've heard from Google is that it's coming "in the coming weeks". Whether or not that's before Christmas is to be seen sadly.

Android 16 QPR1 hasn't been released to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). There's only a stock Pixel OS release. We obtained the full source code the kernel and kernel drivers but don't have the rest and can't begin porting without it. Our OEM partner can likely provide us with early access to major Android releases soon but we don't have it yet and therefore the port isn't even started. We can't provide any timeline on when Android 16 QPR1 will be released to AOSP. We can't port to something that's not released or available to us early yet. This is the first time since we started GrapheneOS in 2014 that a major Android release has not been pushed to AOSP within a day. The last time would have been Android 3 which was not open sourced.

wuseman As I understand it, @RNDMNM was talking about the AOSP team at Google, not GrapheneOS's. GrapheneOS team has been as transparent as possible, letting us know what I honestly believe is all it is known outside Google itself.

wuseman You missed my point entirely. I was actually agreeing with you that it isn't helpful asking the same questions each week. And I was making the point that if the GrapheneOS team had given an update on the situation here then there wouldn't be so many people asking the same question. I'm not blaming GrapheneOS for a lack of release.

userofgos Then, that's something that should've been posted here as it's more relevant to this pinned topic then the one you linked. I'm sure someone's going to say something negative to me, but I think the point is that would help streamline communication, instead of there being the 160+ replies of speculation we have right now. I, as well as others, check this one because it's a pinned topic that's relevant to the concerns about Pixel 10. I guess some might see that post you linked as the team's transparency, but sorry, I find it a little inconveniently placed. I appreciate you linking the update from four days ago and hopefully you can appreciate what I'm trying to say.
