Self-hosted CardDAV server for synchronising contacts via DAVx⁵

A long time ago, I was using a NAS-specific app on my QNAP for CardDAV/CalDAV, but after it failed several times, I decided to go with a self-hosted independent solution.

Currently, I'm with Baikal (https://sabre.io/baikal | https://github.com/sabre-io/Baikal) on the "server"-side (Ubuntu) and with the help of DAVx5 on my phone-side, using the built-in GraphenOS Contacts app.
For backup copy or a manual desktop-like contact-editing experience I use Thunderbird and its native support on my laptop. It is a basic and sufficient solution for me, working great since I moved to GraphenOS (2022).

Another simple solution is Radicale (https://radicale.org | https://github.com/Kozea/Radicale).

I'm looking for a better choice for exporting my contact list, but right now, this is how I'm doing it:

I have an app called "SMS Import/Export" that daily saves a copy of my contact list (it saves it as a .json instead of vcf, which is why I'm looking for a better solution, but it has the advantage of also being able to save call log and text message history)

Those files get synced to my NAS using syncthing-fork on my phone to a syncthing docker container.

@RJ45 I reread your post and now I see your problem. You lost data when creating a vcf file and importing.

Instead you could have moved the contacts from your local address book to the Synology/DAVx5 one. The GrapheneOS contacts app can't do that but the fossify one can.

RJ45 I have been using Nextcloud with DAVx5 for that topic for years and it has been working perfectly fine.

Hi,
like @spindlegranite I to use Radicale since a few months with DAVx5 and this works great for me.
However I don't know if they have an official docker image.

The Wiki page on their repo has instructions for Docker.
An official image ghcr.io/kozea/radicale:latest was added 4 days ago apparently.
