New to Graphene OS - Getting no Play Push notifications from Apps

and just for info i have in my Graphene App Store

Google Play Store - Installed- notifications enabled, permissions - network, notifications, sensors / app battery optimized
Google Play Services - Installed - Notifications enabled - Permissions Network, Sesnsors & SMS / App Battery Unrestricted

have restarted phone, sent more test mails to protonmail for example and 0 push notifications

just an update - after a couple of restarts... whatsapp notifications are working fine now, also another application i installed "nine folders" (365 email) is also fine

protonmail still not,, still no push notifications.. also tried uninstall/reinstall of it from the playstore, and also an uninstall and install of the apk direct from proton

same issue... I have raised a ticket with them to see if its a known issue or something they can help with (but i expect a we don't support that OS)

Please let us know if Proton – which advertises itself as a heavily privacy-focused service – support staff tells you that they don't support a heavily privacy and focused operating system that has Android app compatibility.

I have proton mail app aswell and i get push notifications

do you have
'Dynamic code loading via memory/ sotrage" - enabled for play services? i have both enabled

I dont have playstore installed in profile (so should not matter)

For playstore i have:
Notifications - off
Permissions - network and sensors
Battery usage - unrestricted
all in "advanced" disabled
Hardnend memory allocator, memory tagging - enabled
Native code debugging, jit - disabled

For proton mail itself i have:

Notifications enabled ^^
Permissions: network, notifications, sensors
App battery usage - optimized
Compatibility mode - disabled
Hardened memory allocator, memory tagging - enabled
Native code debugging, jit - disabled
Dlc via memory - disabled
Dlc via storage - enabled

mine were all at defaults:

Native code debugging, jit - Default (Allowed)
Dlc via memory - Default (Allowed)
Dlc via storage - Default (Allowed)

have tried changing these and restarting, no joy yet!

(and yep have tried from a multiple accounts, even the notifications from these forum alerts didn't trigger anything

appreciate the help! at least I wont be rushing back to Google stock OS now i know it "should" be working! thanks

I noticed that my notifications stopped working in Home Assistant a couple of days ago, no notifications where delivered at all. I opened Signal, and a bunch of messages arrived, so nothing there either apparently. Guess no notifications gets delivered at all to my phone (Pixel 9 Pro). Not sure why it stopped all the sudden though, didn't do anything unusual that I can recall.

I have tried removing (and rebooting) Play Services, and reinstalled it again. But the notifications seems to have taken a vacation. Think I had this issue some year ago, not sure how I fixed it back then. Any ideas what to do next?

Same issue here. Purchased a 7a & installed GOS yesterday. Haven't been able to get notifications to work for Signal or Discord (haven't tested any other apps yet).

I noticed the new device (and Graphene's documentation) indicate that the Google Play Services Framework is no longer installed for devices on Android 15. Any chance there's some correlation with the missing Framework (my old phone receives notifications with no issue)?

NewBee It's meant to be that way and definitely works fine. Did you grant Unrestricted battery mode to Play services when requested? Did you revoke Network for either Play Store or Play services? That would break it. Battery saver or data saver modes can also be the source of issues.

If the notifications are missed while on mobile data, you might want to look at the two settings in App Store > Google Play services > Settings > Mobile data usage. "Unrestricted mobile data usage" sounds like it might be needed if you use Data saver.

So into day 3 of GrapheneOS and while loving it, the lack of working play push notifications is a little annoying

Apps I've installed via play store that:

notifications do work (guessing these apps don't use play push???)

WhatsApp
Nine folders (365 email)
Ubiquiti Unifi Protect (CCTV alerts)

Notifications don't work

ProtonMail
VictronVRM
Microsoft Teams
Cloudya (nfon) work VOIP app - doesn't ring

Unknown

Signal (yet to get a message as so unfrequently used by my contacts!)

Everything else seems fine messages/calls

I've today changed to beta channel and updated to

Still no push notifications, I've found that the victronVRM (solar controller app) has an option for sending test events.. I get the emails, but no app notifications from either protonmail or the vivtronVRM app.

Really want to stick with graphene but out of ideas to try now!

and just wiped & reset the device from web installer just to be sure

steps:

wipe device, run updates etc
install play / service - set battery to unrestricted
sign in to play
install protonmail/victron apps
trigger a notification
reboot
retrigger alert

no push alerts

as a test also installed on my old pixel 4, same steps as above, NO push alerts

(about the only difference i see between them is the old pixel 4 has google services framework)

Cyanide77 Is this true on all networks, or just one Wi-Fi network, perhaps a home network? Sometimes people have a content blocker on a home network that blocks notifications for some apps.

de0u thanks have tried on my home WiFi/(I do run a pibole so can see any blocks) & purely on mobile data.. same issue.
So doesn't appear to be DNS or connection related .
