Text Messages Question

I have a large history of texts from my number and the ones I care most about are from my dad who passed away 3 years ago. When I switch to GrapheneOS will my message's histories populate the phone again or will I lose everything? If I do lose everything, what would you recommend I do so I can keep them somewhere?

anonyjane Once you unlock the bootloader, ALL OF YOUR DATA WILL BE DELETED, no recovery (outside of backups), just to mention.

BeepBeep that looks very useful but I'm very new to all of this so pardon the stupid question.. would I use that before I switch to GrapheneOS and then after?

No worries.

1) Install that app on both your old phone and your new GrapheneOS phone. *

2) Run the program on the old phone and create an Export file. (Include MMS)

3) Transfer that file to your new phone (USB stick, cloud drive, email it to yourself, etc.).

4) Run the program on the new phone, and Import the file from Step 2.

Many people recommend using Obtanium to sideload apps like this, but if you're new you may find using the F-Droid store easier.

I've done this and it works well. Install sms-ie then run a backup of your messages, contacts, and call history using the App at https://github.com/tmo1/sms-ie Then copy the files it makes over to your PC to put back onto the phone after you load Graphene OS. Works like a charm.
