teezeh sophia_st With Graphene OS I'm now, after buying the Pixel phone realized that this may be even worse?
I don't understand.
I probably edited it back then or something... I don't remember exactly what I was trying to say.
teezeh Why are you making a difference between EU und UK?
Pavestone2734 Perhaps because those agreements between EU and Schengen countries that guarantee free movement within EU borders for citizens are no longer in place in the UK.
distortedsoulz I live in the UK and travel to the Netherlands often. I don't have graphene os but a normal Samsung phone. I've never had been asked for my phone by boarder force.
I think there is nothing to worry about
Because in the UK there are laws that require to give away password/encryption keys/unlocking whatever it is if requested. Even I know that and I'm by no mean any expert at anything related to computers.
Anthracite You could disable the USB C port entirely. The only way to access your phone is via the USB port but when you disable it your phone is locked up. This is one of the most important features of GOS but unfortunately this feature is not working correctly. See my post here: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/21838-usb-c-off-feature-not-working-corrctly
NetRunner88 It is working correctly, you are just bad at managing it..
That's interesting! The scenario described by @Anthracite is not that odd to encounter with after awhile... there must be some solution to that, otherwise eventually it will lead to that situation.
Pavestone2734 You shouldn't be. Just because you use more secure software doesn't mean you are suspicious.
Usually it's not the case. The thinking process is: if you use something like GOS then you must hide something. It's a known thing actually, even with Tor.
New2MeOS My experience with China is so long as you are not a social media wannabe influencer or anybody with a million followers going out of your way to be a dick, you mostly won't have any problems. I say mostly because once I took a picture of something in a museum that I saw later said "no photos" and a guard asked me to delete the picture and that was that, no special rooms, no inquisitions, I broke the rule an acknowledged that. They have much bigger fish to fry. Of course use a VPN, etc but you should be fine with Graphene unless you are a high risk target.
I have friends who traveled there and two of them even been there for months and they didn't encounter with anything except awesomeness: highly secure, very helpful people and the most important thing is that none of what beed feed to us about china is true. That's one of the reasons why I wanna go there to check myself. There are negative sides of course, but not related to what is told in the media and even here on the forum, like with the VPN. For a tourist you can use any VPN you like with no consequences.
The issue though that none of my friends had GOS and none of them used Tor for example. I'm on the other hand use Tor every day. I can use white VPN while being in China, but the point is they may think typically as I have something to hide and I'm a bit worry and thought maybe someone here actually used GOS and traveled there.
Anyway.. now after reading this thread and some others and checking profiles of some people I have a bad feeling this is flooded intentionally? I mean it's probably not, but I'm making a point. Sorry, but there's lots of nonsense and speculations except the real help / info.
Almost forgot: by the
sophia_st 3) Are there any mechanisms in place of the GOS I can use in order to somehow not give away my pass or anything like that, yet not be declined?
I thought of something like Plausible deniability or something alike.
