Black screen after rebooting after an OS update

Hello, I've been experiencing a black screen after every GOS update for a few months. The notification tray is still working, but everything else is black. In order to fix this, I need to switch to a secondary user, then come back to the primary user.

This only happens after a reboot, after an update. If I reboot when there's no update pending, I don't get the black screen.

I had this with my previous phone, a Pixel 4 XL, and it's still happening after upgrading to a Pixel 7 Pro, so I guess this rules out any hardware issue.

Anyone else is experiencing something like this, or know what I could do to troubleshoot the issue? I've never had this issue either on stock OS or when I was using CalyxOS previously.

matchboxbananasynergy thank you so much, it looks exactly like it. I'm also using Muzei, so it may indeed be the culprit. I disabled it and I'll monitor the situation.

btw is there a way to switch off these auto updates? I have all settings off but this phone is auto updating every couple of days anyway

Mwk You can disable updates by following the steps outlined here:

That said, I highly recommend that you don't do that.

matchboxbananasynergy ok cool, no I was just trying to see whether that's actually possible as I couldn't switch it off by toggling off all visible options

I'm just having trauma from the previous device that broke after update :D
