  • List of apps / tools that positively will not work?

In my exuberance with GrapheneOS, I've been recommending it to friends, and one of them unfortunately had a negative experience trying it out with Android Auto not working. That's completely on me, as it is clearly listed in the documentation as an unsupported feature. I neglected to mention that, and in an effort to be candid on such details going forward, are there any other features that simply will not work on GrapheneOS at this time?

The ones I'm aware of are:
- Android Auto
- Delivery / ride apps like Uber or Doordash
- NFC payments

Any other gotchas out there to be aware of? Thanks in advance for your help.

Delivery apps such as Uber and Doordash (customer apps at least) have been working perfectly ever since the Google maps api was fixed in sandboxed google play services. Technically NFC payments work fine, but most payment processors like google pay enforce googles safety net attestation and don't support graphene's attestation. The only work around for gpay is using google pay on a smart watch linked to your phone. Google pay will run the safety net check on the wearos device and not your phone, which will pass if you haven't modified your watches os in any way.

bereft_penguin Interesting workaround using a smart watch for google pay, thanks for that info. As for delivery apps, that was something I ran across being discussed for those looking to do the driving / delivery. Of course those apps are beyond terrible for privacy, but its still something I'd like to be up front about in future conversations.

Shendai I should probably have made clear that you also have to make the payment with the watch, so you aren't actually using the phones nfc, but if you're using a wear os device anyway it's handy to have. Only other thing I've noticed that doesn't work is google assistant hot word detection.

Doordash/Uber etc. should work find with a proper Sandboxed Google Play installation. You may need to use Play Location instead of re-routing the location to the OS for some apps, as they expect quick and accurate location.

On NFC payments: they work fine. It's Gpay that requires a Google certified Android OS. There's nothing about NFC payments that doesn't work otherwise.

People seem to have success with the Barclays app nowadays, for example, as it doesn't check for a certified Android OS and contactless payments through it work fine. There are other examples.

Do Uber and DoorDash Driver apps work?

          spirit

I use Uber Eats all the time. DoorDash isn't available in the country I live in, so I haven't tried it.

I confirm both Uber Eats and Uber Rider working perfectly well with sandboxed Google services.

Uber will still work if we revoke network permission from Google services, but it won't display map as the map relies on Google services having network permission.

The same with NFC - I am using contactless payments provided by my bank's app and its all working perfectly.
