Hey all,

I'm in Australia and am a lifelong IOS user that is making the move to Graphene.

There appears to be a ton of info on this site but i can't find the specific info i'm looking for.

I just bought a used pixel 6a to try Graphene out and i can follow along with the youtube videos on how to load the new OS onto the phone.

However.....

Does Graphine have a backup? I read a thread from a couple of years ago saying it was on the cards.....

is there a simple way to transfer photos/contacts etc from an iphone 13 mini to a graphene phone?

Does proton mail/vpn/drive/pass work with graphine? Everything i see says it will, but i'd like to check.

How do you create the diffrent profiles to isolate the various apps etc?

I've got a million more questions but ill stop there.

Many thanks in advance :)

    Hi,
I made the move from iOS few weeks ago without specific issues, apart those imposed by Apple "golden jails".
Contacts: exported them from MacOS Contact app as a single .vcard => imported in GOS contact app. Some contacts where not included (don't know why), I exported / imported them one by one
Photos: exported them from MacOS as files and I have put the few ones I needed on my phone via Proton Drive (I don't want to keep tons of personal pictures on my phone anymore)
Messages: strictly impossible to transfer them in a common / standard format. I had to use the MacOS Message app and "print" the conversations I wanted to keep in a PDF files (very long process, I had a long history conversation with a friend, it took 20 minutes on my MacBook Pro M1)
Calendar: I exported them as .ics and imported them in Proton Calendar

I can confirm that Proton VPN works like a charm (I set it as always on, using Wireguard to save battery).
Proton Mail app works without issue. If you don't install Sandboxed Play Services you will not have push notifications when new mail arrives (not a issue for me, I don't want incoming mail notification)
    Proton Drive works without problem.
Same for Proton Pass, I set it as auto-fill provider, it works well in Vanadium and other apps.

As I tried to keep my phone clean I do not use many apps (just a few selected and trusted ones) and have not felt the need for a separate profile.

Afaik it uses Seedvault, which is the default for ASOP. Grapheneos plans to replace it with a better implementation.

      Yes.

Settings app > system > users.

That said I recommend trying private space first, which is essentially the same thing but way more user friendly. It's found in the Settings app > security and privacy > private space.

        Hey dmk,

Thats pretty much exactly what i needed to know, i've already moved fully into the proton ecosystem, so it sounds like this might be a fairly painless transition.

        Many Thanks

Seedvault comes preinstalled, no need to look for it.
It's many issues are widely reported on this forum, for example your app backups might not work when it's time to restore so be aware.

aussieheathen I'll go looking for Seedvault on github

You don't need to. Its the backup option in Settings > System > Backup. It also only works specifically on Graphene (or Android in general) by the way, in case you wanted to use it to transfer from iOS to GOS. Seedvault's github says:

Needs to be integrated in your Android ROM and can not be installed as a regular app.
