I will be installing GrapheneOS on a Pixel 6 tomorrow.

A couple of questions:
1) Gmail - If this is the ONLY Google service that I need - Is it possible to access Gmail via the Vanadium Browser - and AVOID having to install the Google Play Services/Framework?
2) Google Maps alternative - Which do you find works better: OsmAnd, Magic Earth or other FOSS application?

TIA for any answers!

Hi,
1) Gmail should work in Vanadium. FairEmail is also known to work well with Gmail.
2) We usually like and recommend Organic Maps.

You can still use Gmail/Maps apps if you want to.

I use FairEmail. For GMail access, you'll need the APK from Github and not the FDroid version. With this, you won't need any play services.

I like Organic Maps, though it does suffer from routing issues. Without local knowledge (i.e. most of the time as satnav is useful) it could be a problem. I tried it on some local routes and it suggested some inaccessible roads, yet the same routine on OpenStreetMaps worked fine. Obviously the app is still being developed and I imagine that these issues will get resolved.

Magic Earth isn't FOSS.

This leaves OSMAnd, which doesn't have the best UX at times but has fewer routing issues, for me.

I can confirm gmail works in vanadium.... FairMail and K9 are great clients! You could also use official gmail client with sandboxed play services if you want to
