Hi everybody!

I'm an Italian student who fell in love for the GrapheneOS, but I had a very bad experience with the Pixel 6 Pro since it overheated every time I used it to tethering (and since I can't install a router in my home, I use it a lot!).

I've seen this is a problem with Google Tensor CPU and it's likely not going to change in future, but I've seen this was particularly bad with the Pixel 6. In my case, overheating was so bad the phone turned off when tethering after 5 min, it got to the point the adhesive seal for the screen completely detached.

So my question is, how much do Pixel 7, 8 and 9 heat when tethering?
Both the stock, a and Pro variants.
I'd be heartbroken if I wasn't able to use GrapheneOS in the future!!!
Thanks for your time!

The 9pro line has a vapor chamber to help with overheating. If you're worried about the device being under load for a period of time, I don't think you're going to beat that with the models you mention

Of my devices the 6a was the worst and the 8 Pro the best regarding heat issues. Generally the trend would be that a bigger phone and a newer processor will help you best against overheating. So my assumption would be the 9 Pro XL for the best result or the 8 Pro for a much better price and similar result. If you can wait for the 10 Pro XL, maybe do that as we will see whether TSMC will produce a better processor against overheating.

        c86 Thanks!
If that's the case, then I think I'll need to wait some more for the prices to lower.

        N1b How's the 8 Pro overheating?
With the 6 Pro I had to cool it down with ice packs otherwise it would have shut down after 5 min of tethering.

Another option is to use a little fan next to your phone to keep it cool whilst tethering/hot-spotting.
I use a little 80mm Noctua 5V USB PWM 80mm fan sitting on my desk (adjacent phone) - the fan runs pretty quiet (17.7 dB(A)), and the Pixel 6a barely gets lukewarm.

I use a Pixel 9 Pro Fold, i don't notice any overheating while tethering.

0289380427 I have a 6a as well and experience a lot of heat while tethering as well. But USB tethering helps to keep the phone cooler.
